\v 1 Paul, the servant of God, and \sls (an)\sls* apostle of Jesus Christ, by the faith of the chosen of God, and by the knowing of the truth, which is after piety,

\v 2 into the hope of everlasting life, which \em life\em* God that lieth not, promised before \sls (the)\sls* times of the world; \sls (in the hope of eternal life, which \+em life\+em* God who lieth not, promised before the creation of the world;)\sls*

\v 3 but he hath showed in his times his word in preaching, that is betaken to me \sls (or that is delivered to me)\sls*, by the commandment of God, our Saviour,

\v 8 but holding hospitality, benign, prudent, sober, just, holy, continent,

\v 9 taking \add [or embracing]\add* that true word, that is after doctrine; that he be mighty to admonish in wholesome teaching \add [or doctrine]\add*, and to reprove them that gainsay \sls (or and to rebuke those who speak against it)\sls*.

\v 10 For there be many unobedient, and vain speakers, and deceivers, most\sls (ly)\sls* they that be of \sls (the)\sls* circumcision, \sls (or mostly those who be of the circumcision, or who be circumcised)\sls*,

\v 11 which it behooveth to be reproved \sls (or who it behooveth to be rebuked)\sls*; which subvert all houses, teaching which things it behooveth not, for \add [the]\add* love of foul winning.

\v 12 And one of them, their proper prophet said \sls (or their own prophet said)\sls*, Men of Crete \em be\em*\sls (for)\sls*evermore liars, evil beasts, of slow womb.

\v 13 This witnessing is true. For which cause blame them sore, that they be \sls (made)\sls* whole in \sls (the)\sls* faith, \sls (This testimony is true. For which reason sharply rebuke them, so that they can be made whole in the faith,)\sls*

\v 14 not giving attention to \sls (the)\sls* fables of \sls (the)\sls* Jews, and to \sls (the)\sls* commandments of men, that turn away them from \sls (the)\sls* truth \add [or \+sls (that)\+sls* turn them away from \+sls (the)\+sls* truth]\add*.

\v 15 And all things be clean to clean men; but to unclean men and to unfaithful \sls (men)\sls*, nothing is clean, for the soul and \sls (the)\sls* conscience of them be made unclean.

\v 16 They acknowledge that they know God, but by \sls (their)\sls* deeds they deny \add [him]\add*; when they be abominable, and unbelieveful, and reprovable to all good work\sls (s)\sls*\sls (or and unfit for any good work)\sls*.

\v 1 But speak thou those things that beseem \add [or that become]\add* wholesome teaching;
\p
\v 2 that old men be sober, chaste, prudent, whole in faith, in love, and patience;
\p
\v 3 also old women in holy habit, not slanderers \add [or backbiters]\add*, not serving much to wine, well-teaching, \sls (so)\sls* that they teach prudence.
\p
\v 4 \em Admonish thou\em* young women, that they love their husbands, that they love their children;
\p
\v 5 and that they be prudent, chaste, sober, having care of the house, benign, subject to their husbands, \sls (so)\sls* that the word of God be not blasphemed.
\p
\v 6 Also admonish young men, that they be sober \sls (or that they be temperate)\sls*.
\p
\v 7 In all things give thyself ensample of good works, in teaching, in wholeness \add [or in holiness of living]\add*, \em that is, in cleanness of soul and body\em*, in firmness \add [of virtues]\add*.
\p
\v 8 An wholesome word, and unreprovable \sls (or unreproachable)\sls*; that he that is of the contrary side, be ashamed, having none evil thing to say of you.

\v 9 \em Admonish thou\em* servants to be subject to their lords; in all things pleasing, not gainsaying, \sls (or not speaking back to them, or not speaking against them)\sls*,

\v 10 not defrauding, but in all things showing good faith, \sls (so)\sls* that they honour in all things the doctrine of God, our Saviour.

\v 11 For the grace of God, our Saviour, hath appeared to all men,

\v 12 and taught us, that we \sls (should)\sls* forsake wickedness \add [or unpiety]\add*, and worldly desires, and live soberly, and justly, and piously in this world,

\v 13 abiding the blessed hope and the coming of the glory of the great God, and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

\v 14 that gave himself for us, to again-buy us from all wickedness, and make clean to himself a people acceptable, and \sls (pur)\sls*suer of good works. \sls (who gave himself for us, to redeem us from all wickedness, and to make clean an acceptable people unto himself, who be pursuers of good works.)\sls*

\v 15 Speak thou these things, and admonish thou, and reprove thou with all commandment; no man despise thee. \sls (Speak these things, and admonish, and rebuke them with all authority; let no man despise thee.)\sls*

\v 1 Admonish them to be subjects to princes \add [or Admonish them to be subject to princes]\add*, and to powers; to obey to that that is said, and to be ready to \sls (do)\sls* all good work\sls (s)\sls*;

\v 2 to blaspheme no man, to be not full of chiding, but temperate \add [or patient]\add*, showing all mildness to all men \sls (or showing meekness and humility to everyone)\sls*.

\v 3 For we were sometime unwise, unbelieveful, erring, and serving to desires, and to diverse lusts, doing in malice and envy, worthy to be hated, hating each other.

\v 4 But when the benignity and the manhood \add [or the humanity]\add* of our Saviour God appeared,

\v 5 not of works of rightwiseness that we did, but by his mercy he made us safe, by \add [the]\add* washing, \add [or \+sls (the)\+sls* baptism]\add*, of \sls (the)\sls* again-begetting, and \sls (the)\sls* again-newing of the Holy Ghost, \sls (not because of works of righteousness that we did, but by his mercy he saved us, by the washing, \+em or the baptism\+em*, of rebirth, and the renewing power of the Holy Spirit,)\sls*

\v 6 whom he shedded \add [out]\add* into us plenteously by Jesus Christ, our Saviour,

\v 7 that we justified by his grace, be heirs by hope of everlasting life. \sls (so that we who be justified by his grace, be heirs through the hope of eternal life.)\sls*

\v 8 A true word is \add [this]\add*, and of these things I will that thou confirm others, that they that believe in God, be busy to be above others \add [or to be before others]\add* in good works. These things be good, and profitable to men. \sls (\+em This\+em* is a true word, and I desire that thou confirm these things to others, so that they who believe in God, be busy to be before others, or ahead of others, in doing good works. These things be good, and profitable for everyone.)\sls*

\v 9 And eschew thou foolish questions, and genealogies, and strivings \add [or and strives]\add*, and fightings of the law; for those be unprofitable and vain. \sls (And shun foolish questions, and genealogies, and fights, and arguments over the Law; for they be empty and useless.)\sls*

\v 10 Eschew thou \add [or Shun thou]\add* a man heretic, after one and the second correction;

\v 11 witting that he that is such a manner \em man\em* is subverted, and trespasseth, and is condemned by his own doom \sls (or by his own judgement)\sls*.

\v 12 When I send to thee Artemas, or Tychicus, hie thou \add [or \+sls (make)\+sls* haste]\add* to come to me to Nicopolis; for I have purposed to dwell in winter there. \sls (When I send Artemas, or Tychicus, to thee, hasten to come to me at Nicopolis; for I have decided to remain there for the winter.)\sls*

\v 13 Busily before send Zenas \add [or Busily send before Zenas]\add*, a wise man of \sls (the)\sls* law, and Apollos, \sls (so)\sls* that nothing fail to them. \sls (With whatever assistance you can provide, send forth Zenas, a man wise in the Law, and Apollos, so that nothing is lacking for them.)\sls*

\v 14 They that be of ours, learn to be governors \add [or to be before]\add* in good works, \sls (or Those who be of us, learn to be leaders in good works, or the first to do good works)\sls*, to necessary uses, \sls (and)\sls* that they be not without fruit.
