And he signified, sending by his angel to his servant John, \p \v 2 which bare witnessing to the word of God, and \sls (to the)\sls* witnessing of Jesus Christ, in these things, whatever things he saw. \sls (who testified to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, in these things, whatever he saw.)\sls* \p \v 3 Blessed \em is\em* he that readeth, and he that heareth the words of this prophecy, and keepeth those things that be written in it; for the time is nigh. \sls (Blessed \+em is\+em* he who readeth, and he who heareth the words of this prophecy, and obeyeth those things that be written in it; for the time is near.)\sls* \p \v 4 John to the seven churches, that be in Asia, grace and peace \sls (be)\sls* to you, of him that is, and that was, and that is to coming \add [or that is to come]\add*; and of the seven spirits, that be in the sight of his throne; \p \v 5 and of Jesus Christ, that is a faithful witness \sls (or who is a faithful witness)\sls*, the first begotten of dead men \add [or the first begotten of \+sls (the)\+sls* dead]\add*, and \sls (the)\sls* prince of \sls (the)\sls* kings of the earth; which loved us, and washed us from our sins in his blood, \p \v 6 and made us a kingdom, and priests to God and to his Father; to him \em be\em* glory and empire into worlds of worlds \sls (or to him \+em be\+em* glory and empire forever and ever)\sls*. Amen. \p \v 7 Lo! he cometh with clouds, and each eye shall see him, and they that pricked him; and all the kindreds of the earth shall bewail themselves on him. Yea, Amen! \sls (Behold! he cometh with clouds, and every eye shall see him, and they who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth shall bewail themselves over him. Yea, Amen!)\sls* \p \v 8 I am alpha and omega, the beginning and the end, saith the Lord God, that is, and that was, and that is to coming \add [or that is to come]\add*, \sls (the)\sls* almighty. \sls (I am Alpha and Omega, the Source and the Fulfillment, saith the Lord God, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.)\sls* \p \v 9 I, John, your brother, and partner in tribulation, and kingdom, and patience in Christ Jesus, was in an isle, that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the witnessing of Jesus. \sls (I, John, your brother, and partner in suffering, and kingdom, and patience, or endurance, in the Messiah Jesus, was on an island called Patmos, because of the word of God, and because of my testimony about Jesus.)\sls* \p \v 10 I was in \sls (the)\sls* Spirit in the Lord’s day \add [or in the Sunday]\add*, and I heard behind me a great voice, as of a trump, \sls (I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, or on a Sunday, and I heard a loud voice behind me, like the sound of a trumpet,)\sls* \p \v 11 saying \em to me\em*, Write thou in a book that thing that thou seest, and send to the seven churches that be in Asia; to Ephesus, to Smyrna, and to Pergamos \sls (or to Pergamum)\sls*, and to Thyatira, and to Sardis, and to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea. \p \v 12 And I turned, that I should see the voice that spake with me, \sls (or And I turned, so that I could see who spoke to me)\sls*; and I turned, and I saw seven candlesticks of gold, \p \v 13 and in the middle of the seven golden candlesticks one like to the Son of man, clothed with a long garment, and girded at the teats with a golden girdle, \sls (or and girded at the breast with a golden girdle, or and with a gold band around his chest)\sls*. \p \v 14 And the head of him and his hairs were white, as white wool, and as snow; and the eyes of him as \sls (a)\sls* flame of fire, \p \v 15 and his feet like to latten \add [or like the dross of gold]\add*, as in a burning chimney; and the voice of him as the voice of many waters. \sls (and his feet were like latten, or the dross of gold, like in a furnace; and his voice was like the sound of many waters.)\sls* \p \v 16 And he had in his right hand seven stars, and a sword sharp on ever either side went out of his mouth \add [or and a sword sharp on both sides went out of his mouth]\add*; and his face as the sun shineth in his virtue \sls (or and his face shone like the sun in its strength)\sls*. \p \v 17 And when I had seen him, I felled down at his feet, as dead. And he putted his right hand on me, and said, Do not thou dread \sls (or Do not fear)\sls*; I am the first and the last; \p \v 18 and I am alive, and I was dead; and lo! I am living into worlds of worlds, \sls (or and behold! I shall remain alive forever and ever)\sls*, and I have the keys of death and of hell. \p \v 19 Therefore write thou which things thou hast seen, and which be, and which it behooveth to be done after these things. \p \v 20 The sacrament of the seven stars \add [or The mystery of \+sls (the)\+sls* seven stars]\add*, which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks; the seven stars be \add [the]\add* angels of the seven churches, and the seven candlesticks be \add [the]\add* seven churches. \c 2 \cl CHAPTER 2 \p \v 1 And to the angel of the church of Ephesus write thou, These things saith he, that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, which walketh in the middle \add [or in the midst]\add* of the seven golden candlesticks \sls (or who walketh in the midst of the seven gold candlesticks)\sls*. \p \v 2 I know thy works, and thy travail \add [or thy toil]\add*, and thy patience, and that thou mayest not suffer evil men, \sls (or I know of thy works, and thy labour, and thy endurance, and that thou cannot allow or tolerate evil men)\sls*; and thou hast assayed them that say that they be apostles, and be not, and thou hast found them \sls (to be)\sls* liars; \p \v 3 and thou hast patience \sls (or and thou hast endured)\sls*, and thou hast suffered for my name \add [or and thou hast sustained for my name]\add*, and failedest not. \p \v 4 But I have against thee a few things, that thou hast left thy first charity. \sls (But I have a few things against thee, yea, that thou hast left thy first love.)\sls* \p \v 5 Therefore be thou mindful from whence thou hast fallen, and do penance, and do the first works; or else, I shall come soon to thee, and I shall move thy candlestick from his place, \add [no]\add* but thou do penance. \sls (And so remember from where thou hast fallen, and repent, and do again the first works; or else, I shall come soon to thee, and I shall remove thy candlestick from its place, unless thou repent.)\sls* \p \v 6 But thou hast this good thing, that thou hatedest the deeds of \sls (the)\sls* Nicolaitanes \sls (or the Nicolaitans)\sls*, which also I hate. \p \v 7 He that hath ears, hear he, what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh, I shall give to eat of the tree of life, that is in the paradise of my God. \p \v 8 And to the angel of the church of Smyrna write thou, These things saith the first and the last, that was dead, and liveth. \p \v 9 I know thy tribulation, and thy poverty, but thou art rich; and thou art blasphemed of them, that say, that they be Jews, and be not, but be the synagogue of Satan. \sls (I know thy suffering, and thy poverty, even though thou art rich; and thou art blasphemed by those, who say, that they be Jews, and be not, but be Satan’s synagogue.)\sls* \p \v 10 Dread thou nothing of these things, which thou shalt suffer. Lo! the devil shall send some of you into prison, that ye be tempted \add [or that ye be proved]\add*; and ye shall have tribulation \sls (for)\sls* ten days. Be thou faithful to the death, and \sls (then)\sls* I shall give to thee a crown of life. \sls (Fear none of the things, which thou shalt suffer. Behold! the Devil shall send some of you into prison, so that ye can be tested; and ye shall suffer for ten days. But be faithful unto death, and then I shall give thee a crown of life.)\sls* \p \v 11 He that hath ears, hear he, what the Spirit saith to the churches. He that overcometh, shall not be hurt of the second death, \sls (or He who shall overcome, shall not be hurt by the second death)\sls*. \p \v 12 And to the angel of the church of Pergamos \sls (or of Pergamum)\sls*, write thou, These things saith he, that hath the sword sharp on either side \add [or on each side]\add*. \p \v 13 I know where thou dwellest, where the seat of Satan is \sls (or where Satan’s throne is)\sls*; and thou holdest my name, and deniedest not my faith. And in those days \em was\em* Antipas, my faithful witness, that was slain at you \sls (or who was killed there before you)\sls*, where Satan dwelleth. \p \v 14 But I have against thee a few things; for thou hast there men holding the teaching of Balaam, which taught Balac to send \sls (a)\sls* cause of stumbling before the sons of Israel \sls (or who taught Balak to put a cause of stumbling before the Israelites)\sls*, to eat of \sls (the)\sls* sacrifices of idols, and to do fornication; \p \v 15 so also thou hast men holding the teaching of \sls (the)\sls* Nicolaitanes. \sls (and thou hast men who believe and follow the teaching of the Nicolaitans.)\sls* \p \v 16 Also do thou penance \sls (or And so repent)\sls*; if anything less, I shall come soon to thee, and I shall fight with them with the sword of my mouth. \p \v 17 He that hath ears, hear he, what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh I shall give angel meat hid \add [or manna]\add*; and I shall give to him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth, but he that taketh \add [it]\add*, \sls (or and I shall give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone, which no man knoweth, but he who receiveth \+em it\+em*)\sls*. \p \v 18 And to the angel of the church of Thyatira write thou, These things saith the Son of God, that hath eyes as \sls (the)\sls* flame of fire, and his feet like latten, \sls (or who hath eyes like fiery flames, and his feet be like latten, \+em or like the dross of gold\+em*)\sls*. \p \v 19 I know thy works, and \sls (thy)\sls* faith, and charity \sls (or thy love)\sls*, and thy service, and thy patience, and thy last works \sls (be)\sls* more than the former \sls (or greater than thy first works)\sls*. \p \v 20 But I have against thee a few things; for thou sufferest the woman Jezebel, which saith that she is a prophetess, \sls (or for thou hast allowed the woman Jezebel, who saith that she is a prophetess)\sls*, to teach and deceive my servants, to do lechery, and to eat of things offered to idols. \p \v 21 And I gave to her time, that she should do penance, and she would not do penance of her fornication. \sls (And I gave her time, so that she would repent, but she would not repent of her fornication, or of her idolatry, or her immorality.)\sls* \p \v 22 And lo! I send her into a bed, and they that do lechery with her shall be in most tribulation, \add [no]\add* but they do penance of her works. \sls (And behold! I shall send her into a bed, and those who do lechery with her shall suffer greatly, unless they repent of their works.)\sls* \p \v 23 And I shall slay her sons into death, and all \sls (the)\sls* churches shall know, that I am searching reins and hearts; and I shall give to each man of you after his works. \p \v 24 And I say to you, and to \sls (the)\sls* others that be at Thyatira, whoever have not this teaching, and that knew not the highness of Satan, how they say, I shall not send on you another charge \sls (or I shall not put another burden upon you)\sls*; \p \v 25 nevertheless hold ye \sls (onto)\sls* that that ye have, till I come. \p \v 26 And to him that shall overcome, and that shall keep till into the end my works, I shall give power on folks, \sls (And to him who shall overcome, and who shall continue doing my works unto the end, I shall give power over the nations and the peoples,)\sls* \p \v 27 and he shall govern them in an iron rod \sls (or and he shall govern them with an iron rod)\sls*; and they shall be broken \sls (al)\sls*together, as a vessel of a potter, as also I received of \sls (or from)\sls* my Father; \p \v 28 and I shall give to him a morrow star. \p \v 29 He that hath ears, hear he, what the Spirit saith to the churches. \c 3 \cl CHAPTER 3 \p \v 1 And to the angel of the church of Sardis write thou, These things saith he, that hath the seven spirits of God, and the seven stars. I know thy works, for thou hast a name, that thou livest, and thou art dead. \p \v 2 Be thou waking, \sls (or Wake up, or Be on guard)\sls*, and confirm thou \sls (the)\sls* other things, that were to dying; for I find not thy works full \sls (or finished)\sls* before my God. \p \v 3 Therefore have thou in mind, how thou receivedest, and heardest; and keep, and do penance. Therefore if thou wake not, I shall come as a night thief to thee, and thou shalt not know in what hour I shall come to thee. \sls (And so remember, how thou hast received it, and hast heard it; and so obey it, and repent. And if thou do not wake up, or be on guard, I shall come to thee like a thief in the night, and thou shalt not know in what hour I shall come to thee.)\sls* \p \v 4 But thou hast a few names in Sardis, which have not defouled their clothes, \sls (or But thou hast a few people in Sardis, who have not defiled their clothes)\sls*; and they shall walk with me in white clothes, for they be worthy. \p \v 5 He that overcometh, shall be clothed thus with white clothes; and I shall not do away his name from the book of life, and I shall acknowledge his name before my Father, and before his angels. \p \v 6 He that hath ears, hear he, what the Spirit saith to the churches. \p \v 7 And to the angel of the church of Philadelphia write thou, These things saith the holy and \sls (the)\sls* true \sls (one)\sls*, that hath the key of David; which openeth, and no man closeth, he closeth, and no man openeth. \p \v 8 I know thy works, and lo! I gave before thee a door opened, which no man may close; for thou hast a little virtue, and hast kept my word, and deniedest not my name. \sls (I know thy works, and behold! I have put before thee an open door, which no one can close; for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and deniedest not my name.)\sls* \p \v 9 Lo! I shall give to thee \sls (those)\sls* of the synagogue of Satan, which say that they be Jews \sls (or who say that they be Jews)\sls*, and be not, but lie. Lo! I shall make them, \sls (so)\sls* that they come, and worship before thy feet; and they shall know, that I loved thee, \p \v 10 for thou keptest the word of my patience. And I shall keep thee from the hour of temptation, that is to coming into all the world \add [or that is to come into all the world]\add*, to tempt men that dwell in earth. \sls (because thou hast obeyed my word and endured, or because thou hast obeyed my word to endure. And I shall keep thee from the hour of testing, that is to come into all the world, to test those who live on the earth.)\sls* \p \v 11 Lo! I come soon; hold thou that that thou hast, \sls (so)\sls* that no man take thy crown. \p \v 12 And him that shall overcome, I shall make \sls (him)\sls* a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall no more go out; and I shall write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, of the new Jerusalem, that cometh down from \sls (the)\sls* heaven of my God, and my new name. \p \v 13 He that hath ears, hear he, what the Spirit saith to the churches. \p \v 14 And to the angel of the church of Laodicea write thou, These things saith \sls (the)\sls* Amen, the faithful witness and \sls (the)\sls* true \sls (one)\sls*, which is \sls (the)\sls* beginning of God’s creature\sls (s)\sls*, \sls (or who is the beginning, or the Source, of all of God’s Creation)\sls*. \p \v 15 I know thy works, for neither thou art cold, neither \em thou art\em* hot; I would \sls (like)\sls* that thou were cold, either hot; \p \v 16 but for thou art lukewarm, and neither cold, neither hot, I shall begin to cast thee \add [or to vomit thee]\add* out of my mouth. \p \v 17 For thou sayest, That I am rich, and full of goods, and have need of nothing; and thou knowest not, that thou art a wretch, and wretchful \add [or and wretched]\add*, and poor, and blind, and naked. \p \v 18 I counsel thee to buy of me burnt gold \sls (or I counsel thee to buy from me gold which was refined in the fire)\sls*, \sls (so)\sls* that thou be made rich, and be clothed with white clothes, \sls (so)\sls* that the confusion \add [or the shame]\add* of thy nakedness be not seen; and anoint thine eyes with a collyrium, \em that is, a medicine for \+sls (the)\+sls* eyes, gathered of \+sls (or from)\+sls* diverse herbs\em*, \sls (so)\sls* that thou \sls (can)\sls* see. \p \v 19 I reprove, and chastise whom I love; therefore \sls (pur)\sls*sue thou \em good men\em*, and do penance. \sls (I rebuke, and chastise whom I love; and so pursue the \+em good\+em*, and repent.)\sls* \p \v 20 Lo! I stand at the door, and knock; if any man heareth my voice, and openeth the gate to me, I shall enter to him, and sup with him, and he with me. \p \v 21 And I shall give to him that shall overcome, to sit with me in \sls (or on)\sls* my throne, as also I overcame, and sat with my Father in \sls (or on)\sls* his throne. \p \v 22 He that hath ears, hear he, what the Spirit saith to the churches. \c 4 \cl CHAPTER 4 \p \v 1 After these things I saw, and lo! a door was opened in heaven. And the first voice that I heard, \em was\em* as of a trump speaking with me, and said, Ascend thou up hither, and I shall show to thee which things it behooveth to be done soon after these things. \sls (After these things I saw, and behold! a door was opened in heaven. And the voice like a trumpet, that I had heard before, \+em (was)\+em* speaking to me, and it said, Come up here, and I shall show thee what it behooveth to be done next.)\sls* \p \v 2 And anon I was in \sls (the)\sls* Spirit, and lo! a seat was set in heaven, and upon the seat \em one\em* sitting. \sls (And at once I was in the Spirit, and behold! there was a throne in heaven, and \+em (One)\+em* sitting upon the throne.)\sls* \p \v 3 And he that sat \sls (there)\sls*, was like the sight of a stone jasper, and to sardine; and a rainbow was in \add [the]\add* compass of the seat, \sls (or and a rainbow was all around, or encompassed, the throne)\sls*, like the sight of \sls (an)\sls* emerald. \p \v 4 And in the compass of the seat \em were\em* four and twenty small seats; and above \add [or upon]\add* the thrones four and twenty elder men sitting, covered about with white clothes, and in the heads of them golden crowns. \sls (And all around the throne \+em were\+em* twenty-four small thrones; and sitting upon those thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white clothes, and with gold crowns on their heads.)\sls* \p \v 5 And lightnings, and voices \sls (or and sounds)\sls*, and thunderings came out of the throne; and seven lamps burning before the throne, which be the seven spirits of God. \p \v 6 And before the seat as a sea of glass, like crystal, and in the middle of the seat, and in the compass of the seat, \add [were]\add* four beasts, full of eyes before and behind. \sls (And in front of the throne was a sea of glass, like crystal, and in the midst of the throne, and around it, \+em were\+em* four creatures, covered with eyes, in front and behind.)\sls* \p \v 7 And the first beast like a lion; and the second beast like a calf; and the third beast having a face as of a man; and the fourth beast like an eagle flying. \sls (And the first creature was like a lion; and the second creature was like a calf; and the third creature had a face like a man; and the fourth creature was like an eagle in flight.)\sls* \p \v 8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings; and all about and within they were full of eyes; and they had not rest day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, the Lord God almighty, that was, and that is, and that is to coming \add [or and that is to come]\add*. \sls (And each of the four creatures had six wings; and all about, inside and out, they were covered with eyes; and they had no rest day or night, but were always saying, Holy, holy, holy, the Lord God Almighty, who was, and who is, and who is to come.)\sls* \p \v 9 And when those four beasts gave glory, and honour, and blessing to him that sat on the throne, that liveth into \sls (the)\sls* worlds of worlds, \sls (And when those four creatures gave glory, and honour, and blessing to Him who sat on the throne, who liveth forever and ever,)\sls* \p \v 10 the four and twenty elder men fell down before him that sat on the throne, and worshipped him that liveth into \sls (the)\sls* worlds of worlds. And they cast their crowns before the throne, and said, \sls (the twenty-four elders fell down before Him who sat on the throne, and worshipped Him who liveth forever and ever. And they threw their crowns before the throne, and said,)\sls* \p \v 11 Thou, Lord our God, art worthy to take glory, and honour, and virtue; for thou madest of nought all things, and for thy will those were, and be made of nought. \sls (Thou, Lord our God, art worthy to receive glory, and honour, and power; for thou madest everything out of nothing, yea, because of thy will, they were made out of nothing, and they be.)\sls* \c 5 \cl CHAPTER 5 \p \v 1 And I saw in the right hand of the sitter on the throne, a book written within and without, and sealed with seven seals. \p \v 2 And I saw a strong angel, preaching with a great voice \sls (or asking with a loud voice)\sls*, Who is worthy to open the book, and to undo the seals of it? \p \v 3 And none \add [or And no man]\add* in heaven, neither in earth, neither under \sls (the)\sls* earth, might open the book, neither behold it. \p \v 4 And I wept much, for none \add [or no man]\add* was found worthy to open the book, neither to see it. \p \v 5 And one of the elder men said to me, Weep thou not; lo! a lion of the lineage of Juda\sls (h)\sls*, the root of David, hath overcome to open the book, and to undo the seven seals of it. \sls (And one of the elders said to me, Weep not; behold! a lion from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath overcome to open the book, and to undo its seven seals.)\sls* \p \v 6 And I saw, and lo! in the middle of the throne, and of the four beasts, and in the middle of the elder men, a lamb standing as slain, that had seven horns, and seven eyes, which be \add [the]\add* seven spirits of God, sent into all the earth. \sls (And I saw, and behold! in the midst of the throne, and of the four creatures, and of the elders, a Lamb standing there, who appeared to have been killed, and he had seven horns, and seven eyes, which be the seven spirits of God, sent into all the earth.)\sls* \p \v 7 And he came, and took of the right hand of the sitter in the throne the book. \sls (And he came, and took the book from the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.)\sls* \p \v 8 And when he had opened the book, the four beasts and the four and twenty elder men fell down before the lamb; and had each of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which be the prayers of \sls (the)\sls* saints. \sls (And when he had opened the book, the four creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb; and each of them had harps, and gold basins, or gold bowls, full of incense, which be the prayers of God’s people.)\sls* \p \v 9 And they sung a new song, and said, Lord our God, thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals of it; for thou were slain, and again-boughtest us to God in thy blood, of each lineage, and tongue, and people, and nation, \sls (or for thou wast killed, and so thou hast redeemed us to God with thy blood, yea, from every tribe, and language, and people, and nation)\sls*; \p \v 10 and madest us a kingdom, and priests to our God; and we shall reign on earth. \sls (and madest us into a kingdom, and priests for our God; and we shall rule on the earth.)\sls* \p \v 11 And I saw, and heard the voice\sls (s)\sls* of many angels all about the throne, and of the beasts, and of the elder men, \sls (or And I saw, and heard the voices of many angels all about the throne, and the voices of the creatures, and of the elders)\sls*. And the number of them was thousands of thousands, \p \v 12 saying with a great voice, The lamb that was slain, is worthy to take virtue, and Godhead \add [or and Divinity]\add*, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. \sls (saying with loud voices, The Lamb that was killed, is worthy to receive power, and Godhead, or Divinity, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.)\sls* \p \v 13 And each creature that is in heaven, and \em that is\em* on \add [the]\add* earth, and under \sls (the)\sls* earth, and the sea, and which things be in it, I heard all \sls (of them)\sls* saying, To him that sat in the throne, and to the lamb, blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, into \sls (the)\sls* worlds of worlds, \sls (or To Him who sat on the throne, and to the Lamb, blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, forever and ever)\sls*. \p \v 14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elder men fell down on their faces, and worshipped him that liveth into \sls (the)\sls* worlds of worlds. \sls (And the four creatures said, Amen. And the twenty-four elders fell down on their faces, and worshipped Him who liveth forever and ever.)\sls* \c 6 \cl CHAPTER 6 \p \v 1 And I saw, that the lamb had opened one of the seven seals. And I heard one of the four beasts saying, as a voice of thunder, Come thou, and see. \sls (And I saw, that the Lamb had opened one of the seven seals. And I heard one of the four creatures say, with a voice like thunder, Come, and see.)\sls* \p \v 2 And I saw, and lo! a white horse; and he that sat on him had a bow, and a crown was given to him. And he went out overcoming, \sls (so)\sls* that he should overcome. \p \v 3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast saying, Come thou, and see. \sls (And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second creature say, Come, and see.)\sls* \p \v 4 And an other red horse went out; and it was given to him that sat on him \add [power]\add*, that he should take peace from the earth, and that they slay together themselves, \sls (or so that he would take peace from the earth, so the people would kill each other)\sls*; and a great sword was given to him. \p \v 5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast saying, Come thou, and see. And lo! a black horse; and he that sat on him had a balance in his hand. \sls (And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third creature say, Come, and see. And behold! a black horse; and he who sat on him had a balance in his hand.)\sls* \p \v 6 And I heard as a voice in the middle of the four beasts, saying, \sls (or And I heard a voice from the midst of the creatures say)\sls*, A bilibre, \em that is, a weight of two pounds\em*, of wheat for a penny, and three bilibres of barley for a penny; and hurt thou not \sls (the)\sls* wine, nor \sls (the)\sls* oil. \p \v 7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard a voice of the fourth beast saying, Come thou, and see. \sls (And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth creature say, Come, and see.)\sls* \p \v 8 And lo! a pale horse; and the name \em was\em* Death to him that sat on him, and hell \sls (pur)\sls*sued him \sls (or and hell followed him)\sls*. And power was given to him on, \sls (or over)\sls*, \sls (the)\sls* four parts of the earth, to slay with \sls (the)\sls* sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with beasts of the earth. \p \v 9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of men slain for the word of God, and for the witnessing that they had. \sls (And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of men killed for the word of God, and for the testimony which they had given.)\sls* \p \v 10 And they cried with a great voice, and said, How long thou, Lord, that art holy and true, deemest \add [thou]\add* not, and vengest not our blood of these that dwell in the earth? \sls (And they cried with loud voices, and said, How long O Lord, who art holy and true, judgest not, and avengest not our blood upon those who live on the earth?)\sls* \p \v 11 And white stoles, for each soul a stole, were given to them; and it was said to them, that they should rest yet a little time, till the number of their fellows and of their brethren be fulfilled, that be to be slain, as also they \add [were]\add*. \p \v 12 And I saw, when he had opened the sixth seal, and lo! a great earth-moving was made, \sls (and behold! there was a great earthquake)\sls*; and the sun was made black, as a sackcloth of hair, and all the moon was made as blood. \p \v 13 And the stars of heaven felled down on the earth, as a fig tree sendeth his unripe figs, when it is moved of a great wind. \sls (And the stars of the heavens fell down upon the earth, like a fig tree sendeth its unripe figs, when it is moved by a great wind.)\sls* \p \v 14 And \sls (the)\sls* heaven\sls (s)\sls* went away, as a book wrapped in \add [or enfolded]\add*; and all the mountains and \sls (the)\sls* isles were moved from their places. \p \v 15 And the kings of the earth, and princes, and tribunes, and rich, and strong, and each bondman, and free man, hid them\sls (selves)\sls* in dens and \sls (in the)\sls* stones of \sls (the)\sls* hills. \p \v 16 And they say to \sls (the)\sls* hills and to \sls (the)\sls* stones, Fall ye on us, and hide ye us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the lamb; \p \v 17 for the great day of their wrath cometh, and who shall be able to stand? \c 7 \cl CHAPTER 7 \p \v 1 After these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding \add [the]\add* four winds of the earth, \sls (so)\sls* that they blew not on the earth, neither on the sea, neither on any tree. \p \v 2 And I saw another angel ascending up from the rising of the sun, that had a sign of the living God. And he cried with a great voice to the four angels, to which it was given to annoy the earth, and the sea, \sls (And I saw another angel going up from the rising of the sun, who had the seal of the living God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to do great harm to the earth, and to the sea,)\sls* \p \v 3 and said, Do not ye annoy the earth, and the sea, neither \add [to]\add* trees, till we mark the servants of our God in the foreheads of them. \sls (and said, Do not harm the earth, or the sea, or the trees, until we mark the servants of our God with a seal upon their foreheads.)\sls* \p \v 4 And I heard the number of men that were marked, an hundred thousand and four and forty thousand marked, of every lineage of the sons of Israel; \sls (And I heard that the number of men who were sealed, were a hundred and forty-four thousand, from every tribe of the Israelites;)\sls* \p \v 5 of the lineage of Juda \sls (or from the tribe of Judah)\sls*, twelve thousand marked; of the lineage of Reuben, twelve thousand marked; of the lineage of Gad, twelve thousand marked; \p \v 6 of the lineage of Aser, twelve thousand marked; of the lineage of Nephthalim, twelve thousand marked; of the lineage of Manasses, twelve thousand marked; \p \v 7 of the lineage of Simeon, twelve thousand marked; of the lineage of Levi, twelve thousand marked; of the lineage of Issachar, twelve thousand marked; \p \v 8 of the lineage of Zabulon \sls (or from the tribe of Zebulon)\sls*, twelve thousand marked; of the lineage of Joseph, twelve thousand marked; of the lineage of Benjamin, twelve thousand marked. \p \v 9 After these things I saw a great people, whom no man might number, of all folks, and lineages \sls (or tribes)\sls*, and peoples, and languages \add [or and tongues]\add*, standing before the throne, in the sight of the lamb; \em and they were\em* clothed with white stoles, and palms \em were\em* in the hands of them. \p \v 10 And they cried with a great voice, and said, Health to our God, that sitteth on the throne, and to the lamb. \sls (And they cried with loud voices, and said, Salvation cometh from our God, who sitteth on the throne, and from the Lamb./And they cried with loud voices, and said, Victory to our God, who sitteth on the throne, and to the Lamb.)\sls* \p \v 11 And all the angels stood all about the throne, and of the elder men, and the four beasts. And they fell down in the sight of the throne, on their faces, and worshipped God, \sls (And all the angels stood all around the throne, and the elders, and the four creatures. And they fell down before the throne, on their faces, and worshipped God,)\sls* \p \v 12 and said, Amen! blessing, and clearness, and wisdom, and doing of thankings, and honour, and virtue, and strength to our God, into worlds of worlds. Amen. \sls (and said, Amen! blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and giving thanks, and honour, and power, and strength to our God, forever and ever. Amen.)\sls* \p \v 13 And one of the elder men answered, and said to me, Who be these, that be clothed with white stoles? and from whence came they? \sls (And one of the elders asked me, Who be these, who be clothed with white stoles? and where do they come from?)\sls* \p \v 14 And I said to him, My lord, thou knowest. And he said to me, These be they, that came from \sls (the)\sls* great tribulation, and washed their stoles, and made them white in the blood of the lamb \sls (or and made them white with the Lamb’s blood)\sls*. \p \v 15 Therefore they be before the throne of God, and serve to him day and night, in his temple. And he that sitteth in the throne, dwelleth on them. \sls (And so they be before the throne of God, and serve him day and night, in his Temple. And He who sitteth on the throne, liveth among them.)\sls* \p \v 16 They shall no more hunger, neither thirst, neither \add [the]\add* sun shall fall on them, nor any heat. \p \v 17 For the lamb, that is in the middle of the throne, shall govern them, and shall lead forth them to the wells of \sls (the)\sls* waters of life \add [or and shall lead them forth to the wells of the waters of life]\add*; and God shall wipe away each tear from the eyes of them. \sls (For the Lamb, who is in the midst of the throne, shall govern them, and shall lead them forth to the springs of the water of life; and God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes.)\sls* \c 8 \cl CHAPTER 8 \p \v 1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, a silence was made in heaven \add [or silence was made in heaven]\add*, as half an hour \sls (or for half an hour)\sls*. \p \v 2 And I saw seven angels standing in the sight of God, and seven trumps were given to them. \sls (And I saw seven angels standing before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.)\sls* \p \v 3 And another angel came, and stood before the altar, and had a golden censer; and many incenses were given to him, that he should give of the prayers of all \sls (the)\sls* saints on the golden altar \sls (or so that he could offer them with the prayers of all of God’s people on the gold altar)\sls*, that is before the throne of God. \p \v 4 And the smoke of the incenses of the prayers of the holy men ascended up from the angel’s hand before God. \sls (And the smoke from the incense went up before God from the angel’s hand, with the prayers of the saints or of God’s people.)\sls* \p \v 5 And the angel took the censer, and filled it of the fire of the altar, and cast \add [it]\add* into the earth. And thunders, and voices, and lightnings were made, and a great earth-moving. \sls (And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it down onto the earth. And there was thunder, and sounds, and lightning, and a great earthquake.)\sls* \p \v 6 And the seven angels, that had the seven trumps, made them ready, that they should trump. \sls (And the seven angels, who had the seven trumpets, made them ready, so that they could blow them.)\sls* \p \v 7 And the first angel trumped; and hail was made, and fire mingled together in blood; and it was sent into the earth. And the third part of the earth was burnt, and the third part of \sls (the)\sls* trees was burnt, and all the green grass was burnt. \p \v 8 And the second angel trumped; and as a great hill burning with fire was cast into the sea; and the third part of the sea was made blood, \p \v 9 and the third part of \sls (the)\sls* creature\sls (s)\sls* was dead, that had lives in the sea, and the third part of \add [the]\add* ships perished. \p \v 10 And the third angel trumped; and a great star burning as a little \sls (fire)\sls*brand, fell from heaven; and it fell into the third part of \sls (the)\sls* rivers, and into the wells of waters. \sls (And the third angel trumpeted; and a great star burning like a torch, fell from the heavens; and it fell into a third of the rivers, and into the springs of water.)\sls* \p \v 11 And the name of the star is said Wormwood. And the third part of \sls (the)\sls* waters was made into wormwood; and many men were dead of the waters, for those were made bitter. \sls (And the star was called Wormwood. And a third of the waters was made into wormwood; and many men died from the waters, because they were made bitter or they were poisoned.)\sls* \p \v 12 And the fourth angel trumped; and the third part of the sun was smitten \sls (or and a third of the sun was struck)\sls*, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of \add [the]\add* stars, so that the third part of them was darked, and the third part of the day shined not, and also of the night. \p \v 13 And I saw, and heard the voice of an eagle flying by the middle of heaven, and saying with a great voice, Woe! woe! woe! to men that dwell in earth, of the other voices of the three angels, that shall trump after. \sls (And I saw, and heard the voice of an eagle flying through the midst of the heavens, and saying with a loud voice, Woe! woe! woe! to the men who live on the earth, from the other soundings of the three angels, who shall trumpet next.)\sls* \c 9 \cl CHAPTER 9 \p \v 1 And the fifth angel trumped; and I saw, that a star had fallen down from \sls (the)\sls* heaven\sls (s)\sls* into \sls (the)\sls* earth; and the key of the pit of deepness was given to it \add [or and the key of the pit of deepness is given to him]\add*. \p \v 2 And it opened the pit of deepness \add [or And he opened the pit of deepness]\add*, and a smoke of the pit ascended up, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun was darked, and the air, of the smoke of the pit, \sls (or and the sun, and the air, were darkened by the smoke from the pit)\sls*. \p \v 3 And locusts went out of the smoke of the pit into \sls (the)\sls* earth; and power was given to them, as scorpions of the earth have power. \p \v 4 And it was commanded to them, that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only \sls (the)\sls* men, that have not the sign of God \add [or the mark of God]\add* in their foreheads, \sls (or but only those, who did not have God’s seal upon their foreheads)\sls*. \p \v 5 And it was given to them, that they should not slay them, but that they should be tormented \sls (for)\sls* five months; and the tormenting of them, \sls (was)\sls* as the tormenting of a scorpion, when he smiteth a man \sls (or when he striketh someone)\sls*. \p \v 6 And in those days men shall seek death, and they shall not find it; and they shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. \p \v 7 And the likeness of \sls (the)\sls* locusts \em be\em* like horses made ready into battle; and on the heads of them as crowns like gold, and the faces of them as the faces of men. \p \v 8 And they had hairs, as the hairs of women; and the teeth of them were as the teeth of lions. \p \v 9 And they had habergeons, as iron habergeons, and the voice of their wings as the voice of \sls (the)\sls* chariots of many horses running to battle. \sls (And they had breastplates, like iron breastplates, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of many chariots and their horses rushing to battle.)\sls* \p \v 10 And they had tails like scorpions, and pricks were in the tails of them; and the might of them was to annoy men \sls (for)\sls* five months \sls (or and their power was to be used to harm men for five months)\sls*. \p \v 11 And they had on them a king \sls (or And they had a king over them)\sls*, the angel of \sls (the)\sls* deepness, to whom the name in Hebrew \em is\em* Abaddon, but by Greek Apollyon, and by Latin he hath a name Exterminus, \em that is, Destroyer\em*. \p \v 12 One woe is passed, and lo! yet come two woes. \p \v 13 After these things also the sixth angel trumped; and I heard a voice from the four corners of the golden altar \sls (or and I heard a voice from the four corners of the gold altar)\sls*, that is before the eyes of God, \p \v 14 and said to the sixth angel that had a trump, Unbind thou \add [the]\add* four angels, that be bound in the great flood Euphrates. \sls (and it said to the sixth angel who had a trumpet, Unbind the four angels, who be bound at the great Euphrates River.)\sls* \p \v 15 And the four angels were unbound, which were ready into \sls (the)\sls* hour, and day, and month, and year, to slay the third part of men. \p \v 16 And the number of the host of horsemen was twenty thousand times ten thousand \sls (or And the number of the army of the horsemen was twenty thousand times ten thousand)\sls*. And I heard the number of them. \p \v 17 And so I saw horses in vision; and they that sat on them had fiery habergeons, and of jacinth, and of brimstone, \sls (or and those who sat upon them had fire-red breastplates, and hyacinth or blue ones, and yellow ones)\sls*. And the heads of the horses were as \add [the]\add* heads of lions; and fire, and smoke, and brimstone, cometh forth \sls (out)\sls* of the mouth\sls (s)\sls* of them. \p \v 18 Of these three plagues the third part of men was slain, of the fire, and of the smoke, and of the brimstone, that came out of the mouth\sls (s)\sls* of them. \sls (By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, that came out of their mouths.)\sls* \p \v 19 For the power of the horses is in the mouth\sls (s)\sls* of them, and in the tails of them; for the tails of them \em be\em* like to serpents, having heads, and in them they annoy \sls (or and with them they do much harm)\sls*. \p \v 20 And the other men, that were not slain in these plagues, neither did penance of the works of their hands, that they worshipped not devils, and simulacra of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of tree, which neither may see, neither hear, neither wander; \sls (And the other men, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so that they did not worship demons, and idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood, which cannot see, nor hear, nor walk or go;)\sls* \p \v 21 and \add [they]\add* did not penance of their manslayings, neither of their witchcrafts, neither of their fornication, neither of their thefts, \em were slain\em*. \sls (and they did not repent of their murders, nor of their witchcrafts, nor of their fornication or their idolatry, nor of their thefts.)\sls* \c 10 \cl CHAPTER 10 \p \v 1 And I saw another strong angel coming down from heaven, clothed with a cloud, and the rainbow on his head; and the face of him was as the sun, and the feet of him as a pillar of fire. \p \v 2 And he had in his hand a little book opened; and he set his right foot on the sea, and the left foot on the earth. \p \v 3 And he cried with a great voice, as a lion when he roareth; and when he had cried, the seven thunders spake their voices. \sls (And he cried with a loud voice, like a lion when he roareth; and when he had cried out, the seven thunders spoke.)\sls* \p \v 4 And when the seven thunders had spoken their voices, I was to write. And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, Mark thou what things the seven thunders spake, and do not thou write them. \sls (And when the seven thunders had spoken, I was about to write down what they had said. But I heard a voice from heaven, saying, Seal up what the seven thunders have spoken, and do not write it down.)\sls* \p \v 5 And the angel whom I saw standing above the sea, and above the earth, lifted up his hand to heaven, \p \v 6 and swore by him that liveth into \sls (the)\sls* worlds of worlds, that made of nought heaven, and those things that be in it, and the earth, and those things that be in it, and the sea, and those things that be in it, that time shall no more be. \sls (and swore by Him who liveth forever and ever, who made out of nothing heaven, and those things that be in it, and the earth, and those things that be in it, and the sea, and those things that be in it, that time shall be no more.)\sls* \p \v 7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel \sls (or But in the days of the sounding of the seventh angel)\sls*, when he shall begin to trump, the mystery of God shall be ended \add [or shall be fulfilled]\add*, as he preached by his servants \sls (the)\sls* prophets. \p \v 8 And I heard a voice from heaven again speaking with me, and saying, Go thou, and take the book, that is opened, from the hand of the angel, that standeth above the sea, and on the land, \sls (or who standeth on the sea, and on the land)\sls*. \p \v 9 And I went to the angel, and said to him, that he should give me the book. And he said to me, Take the book, and devour it; and it shall make thy womb to be bitter, but in thy mouth it shall be \sls (as)\sls* sweet as honey. \p \v 10 And I took the book \sls (out)\sls* of the angel’s hand \sls (or And I took the book from the hand of the angel)\sls*, and devoured it, and it was in my mouth as sweet \add [as]\add* honey; and when I had devoured it, my womb was bitter. \p \v 11 And he said to me, It behooveth thee again to prophesy to heathen men, and to peoples, and languages \add [or and tongues]\add*, and to many kings. \sls (And he said to me, It behooveth thee again to prophesy about or to the Gentiles, and the peoples, and the languages, and many kings.)\sls* \c 11 \cl CHAPTER 11 \p \v 1 And a reed like a rod was given to me, and it was said to me, Rise thou, and mete the temple of God, and the altar, and \sls (the)\sls* men that worship in it. \sls (And a reed like a measuring rod was given to me, and it was said to me, Rise, and measure the Temple of God, and the altar, and the number of those who worship in it.)\sls* \p \v 2 But cast thou out the foreyard \add [or the porch]\add*, that is without the temple, and mete not it; for it is given to \sls (the)\sls* heathen men, and they shall defoul the holy city by forty months and twain. \sls (But ignore the outer courtyard, which is outside the Temple, and do not measure it; for it was given to the Gentiles, and they shall defile the holy city for forty-two months.)\sls* \p \v 3 And I shall give to my two witnesses \sls (or And I shall send my two witnesses)\sls*, and they shall prophesy \sls (for)\sls* a thousand days two hundred and sixty, and \add [they]\add* shall be clothed with sackcloths. \p \v 4 These be two olives, and two candlesticks, \sls (or They be the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks)\sls*, and they stand in the sight of the Lord of the earth. \p \v 5 And if any man will annoy \sls (or will harm)\sls* them, fire shall go out of the mouth\sls (s)\sls* of them, and \sls (it)\sls* shall devour their enemies. And if any \add [man]\add* will hurt them, thus it behooveth him to be slain. \p \v 6 These have \sls (the)\sls* power to close, \add [or to shut up]\add*, \sls (the)\sls* heaven\sls (s)\sls*, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy; and they have power on waters, to turn them into blood; and to smite the earth with every plague, and as oft as they will. \sls (They have the power to close up the heavens, so that it will not rain in the days of their prophecy; and they have power over the waters, to turn them into blood; and to strike the earth with every plague, and as often as they desire.)\sls* \p \v 7 And when they shall end their witnessing, the beast that ascendeth up from \sls (the)\sls* deepness \add [or from the depth]\add*, shall make battle against them, and shall overcome them, and shall slay them. \sls (And when they shall end their testimony, the beast that goeth up from the abyss, shall make battle against them, and shall overcome them, and shall kill them.)\sls* \p \v 8 And the bodies of them shall lie in the streets of the great city, that is called ghostly Sodom, and Egypt, \sls (or that is spiritually or symbolically called Sodom, or Egypt)\sls*, where the Lord of them was crucified. \p \v 9 And some of the lineages, and of peoples, and of languages, and of heathen men, shall see the bodies of them by three days and an half; and they shall not suffer the bodies of them to be put in burials. \sls (And some of the tribes, and of the peoples, and of the languages, and of the Gentiles, shall behold their bodies for three and a half days; and they shall not allow their bodies to be buried.)\sls* \p \v 10 And men inhabiting the earth shall have joy on them; and they shall make merry, and shall send gifts together, for these two prophets tormented them that dwell on the earth. \sls (And all those inhabiting the earth shall rejoice over them; and they shall make merry, and shall send gifts to each other, for these two prophets tormented all who lived on the earth.)\sls* \p \v 11 And after three days and an half, the Spirit of \sls (the)\sls* life of God entered into them; and they stood on their feet, and great dread fell on them that saw. \sls (But after three and a half days, the breath of life from God entered into them; and they stood upon their feet, and great fear fell upon those who saw them.)\sls* \p \v 12 And they heard a great voice from heaven, saying to them, Come up hither. And they ascended \add [up]\add* into heaven in a cloud, and the enemies of them saw them. \sls (And they heard a loud voice from heaven, saying to them, Come up here. And they went up into heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them.)\sls* \p \v 13 And in that hour a great earth-moving was made, and the tenth part of the city fell down; and the names of men seven thousand were slain in the earth-moving; and the others were sent into dread, and gave glory to \sls (the)\sls* God of heaven. \sls (And at that moment there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell down; and seven thousand men were killed in the earthquake; and the others were sent into fear or terror, and gave glory to the God of heaven.)\sls* \p \v 14 The second woe is gone, and lo! the third woe shall come soon. \p \v 15 And the seventh angel trumped, and great voices were made in heaven, and said, The realm of this world is made our Lord’s, and of Christ \add [or and Christ’s]\add*, his Son, or is made of our Lord, and of Christ, his Son; and he shall reign into worlds of worlds. Amen. \sls (And the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and loud voices were heard in heaven, and they said, The Kingdom of this world is now our Lord’s, and the Messiah’s, His Son; and he shall reign forever and ever.
