\v 43 It is not a good tree, that maketh evil fruits, neither an evil tree, that maketh good fruits;

\v 44 for every tree is known of his fruit. And men gather not figs of thorns, neither men gather a grape of a bush of briers. \sls (for every tree is known by its fruit. And people do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a briar bush.)\sls*

\v 23 And he that shall not be caused to stumble in me, is blessed.

\v 26 But what went ye out to see? a prophet? Yea, I say to you, and more than a prophet.

\v 30 but the Pharisees and the wise men of the law, that were not baptized of him, despised the counsel of God against themselves. \sls (but the Pharisees and the men wise in the Law, who were not baptized by him, rejected God’s plan or purpose for themselves.)\sls*

\v 31 And the Lord said, Therefore to whom shall I say men of this generation like, and to whom be they like?

\v 40 And Jesus answered, and said to him, Simon, I have something to say to thee. And he said, Master, say thou, \sls (or Teacher, tell me)\sls*.

\v 41 And he answered, Two debtors were to one lender; and one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty;

\v 3 and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, the procurator of Herod, and Susanna, and many others, that ministered to him of their riches, \sls (or who served him out of their own resources, or with their own money)\sls*.

\v 4 And when much people was come together, and men hied \add [or hasted]\add* to him, from the cities, he said by a similitude, \add [or by a likeness, or \+sls (an)\+sls* example]\add*, \sls (or by a parable)\sls*,

\v 5 He that soweth, went out to sow his seed. And while he soweth, some fell beside the way, and was defouled \sls (or and was defiled)\sls*, and \sls (the)\sls* birds of the air ate it.

\v 9 But his disciples asked him, what this parable was.

\v 10 And he said to them, To you it is granted to know the private \add [or the mystery]\add* of the kingdom of God \sls (or To you it is granted to know the secret of the Kingdom of God)\sls*; but to other men \sls (I speak)\sls* in parables, \sls (so)\sls* that they seeing see not, and they hearing understand not.

\v 11 And this is the parable. The seed is God’s word;

\v 12 and they that be beside the way, be these that hear; and afterward the fiend cometh \sls (or and afterward the Devil cometh)\sls*, and taketh away the word from their heart\sls (s)\sls*, lest they believing be made safe \sls (or lest they believe and be saved)\sls*.

\v 13 But they that \em fell\em* on a stone, be these that when they have heard, receive the word with joy. And these have no roots; for at a time they believe, and in time of temptation they go away \sls (or but in the time of testing they go away)\sls*.

\v 16 No man lighteth a lantern, and covereth it with a vessel, or putteth \em it\em* under a bed, \sls (no)\sls* but on a candlestick, \sls (so)\sls* that men that enter \sls (can)\sls* see light.

\v 17 For there is no privy thing, which shall not be opened; neither hid thing, which shall not be known, and come into \sls (the)\sls* open. \sls (For there is nothing private, or secret, which shall not be made open; nor any hidden thing, which shall not be made known, and brought out into the open.)\sls*

\v 19 And his mother and brethren came to him; and they might not come to him for the people.

\v 23 And while they rowed, he slept. And a tempest of wind came down into the water, and they were driven hither and thither with waves, and were in peril.

\v 24 And they came nigh, and raised him, and said, Commander \sls (or Master)\sls*, we perish. And he rose up, and blamed the wind \sls (or and rebuked the wind)\sls*, and the tempest of the water; and it ceased, and peaceability was made.

\v 25 And he said to them, Where is your faith? Which dreading wondered, and said together, \sls (or Who with fear and wonder, said to each other)\sls*, Who, guessest thou, is this? for he commandeth to the winds and to the sea, and they obey to him.

\v 26 And they rowed to the country of Gadarenes, that is against Galilee \sls (or that is opposite Galilee)\sls*.

\v 27 And when he went out to the land, a man ran to him, that had a devil \add [now]\add*\sls (a)\sls* long time, and he was not clothed with cloth, neither dwelled in \sls (a)\sls* house, but in sepulchres. \sls (And when he got onto the land, a man ran over to him, who for a long time now had a demon, and he was not clothed with a cloak, nor lived in a house, but dwelt among the tombs.)\sls*

\v 28 This \sls (man)\sls*, when he saw Jesus, fell down before him, and he crying with a great voice said, \sls (or and he cried with a loud voice, and said)\sls*, What to me and to thee, Jesus, the Son of the Highest God? I beseech thee, that thou torment me not.

\v 29 For he \sls (had)\sls* commanded the unclean spirit, that he should go out from the man. For he took him oft times, and he was bound with chains, and kept in stocks, and when the bonds were broken, he was led of the devil into desert \sls (or he was led by the demon into the desert)\sls*.

\v 30 And Jesus asked him, and said, What name is to thee? And he said, A legion; for many devils were entered into him, \add [or for many devils had entered into him]\add*, \sls (or for there were many demons in him)\sls*.

\v 33 And so the devils went out from the man, and entered into the swine \add [or into the hogs]\add*; and with a rush the flock went headlong into the pool \add [or into the lake of water]\add*, and was drenched. \sls (And so the demons went out of the man, and entered into the pigs; and with a rush the herd went headlong into the lake, and were drowned.)\sls*

\v 34 And when the herders saw this thing done, they fled, and told into the city, and into the towns.

\v 34 But while he spake these things, a cloud was made, and overshadowed them; and they dreaded \sls (or and they feared)\sls*, when they entered into the cloud.

\v 35 And a voice was made out of the cloud, and said, This is my dearworthy Son, hear ye him \sls (or listen to him)\sls*.

\v 36 And while the voice was made, Jesus was found alone. \v 39 and lo! a spirit taketh him, and suddenly he crieth, and hurtleth \add [him]\add* down, and draweth him with foam \add [or with froth]\add*, and scarcely he goeth away \sls (before)\sls* drawing him all to pieces.

\v 40 And I prayed thy disciples, that they should cast him out, and they might not. \sls (And I beseeched thy disciples, that they should throw out the spirit, but they could not do it.)\sls*

\v 41 And Jesus answered and said to them, A! unfaithful generation and wayward \sls (or O unfaithful and wayward generation!)\sls*, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? bring hither thy son.

\v 42 And when he came nigh, the devil hurtled him down, and wrenched him. And Jesus blamed the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and yielded him \sls (back)\sls* to his father, \sls (or And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, yea, the demon, and healed the child, and gave him back to his father)\sls*.

\v 43 And all men wondered greatly in the greatness of God. \v 44 Put ye these words in your hearts, for it is to come, that man’s Son be betrayed into the hands of men.

\v 45 And they knew not this word, and it was hid before them, that they feeled it not; and they dreaded to ask him of this word. \sls (But they did not know what this meant, and it was hidden to them, so that they could not perceive or understand it; and they feared to ask him about these words.)\sls*

\v 46 But a thought entered into them, who of them should be \sls (the)\sls* greatest.

\v 49 And John answered and said, Commander, we saw a man casting out fiends in thy name, and we have forbidden him, for he \sls (pur)\sls*sueth not thee with us. \sls (And John said, Master, we saw a man throwing out devils and demons in thy name, and we have forbidden him, for he followeth not thee with us.)\sls*

\v 50 And Jesus said to him, Do not ye forbid \sls (him)\sls*, for he that is not against us, is for us.

\v 51 And it was done, when the days of his taking up were fulfilled \sls (or when it would soon be the day that he would be taken up into heaven)\sls*, he set fast his face, to go to Jerusalem,

\v 52 and sent messengers before his sight. And they went, and entered into a city of Samaritans, to make ready to him \sls (or to prepare it for him)\sls*.

\v 53 And they received not him, for the face of him was going into Jerusalem.

\v 14 Nevertheless to Tyre and Sidon it shall be easier in the doom, than to you. \sls (Nevertheless for Tyre and Sidon, it shall be easier at the Judgement, than for you.)\sls*

\v 1 And it was done, when he was praying in a place, as he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.

\v 5 And he said to them, Who of you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight, and shall say to him, Friend, lend to me three loaves;

\v 7 And he withinforth answer and say, Do not thou be heavy to me; the door is now shut, and my children be with me in bed; I may not rise, and give \sls (something)\sls* to thee, \sls (or I cannot get up, and give something to thee)\sls*.

\v 9 And I say to you, ask ye, and it shall be given to you; seek ye, and ye shall find; knock ye, and it shall be opened to you.

\v 13 Therefore if ye, when ye be evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more your Father of heaven shall give a good Spirit to men that ask him.

\v 14 And Jesus was casting out a fiend \sls (or And Jesus was throwing out a demon)\sls*, and it was dumb. And when he had cast out the fiend, the dumb man spake; and the people wondered.

\v 15 And some of them said, In Beelzebub, \sls (the)\sls* prince of devils, he casteth out devils. \sls (And some of them said, By Beelzebub, the Prince of demons, he throweth out demons.)\sls*

\v 16 And others tempting asked of him a token from heaven. \sls (And others testing him, asked for a sign from heaven.)\sls*

\v 17 And as he saw the thoughts of them, he said to them, Every realm parted against itself shall be desolate\sls (d)\sls*, \sls (or Every kingdom divided against itself shall be destroyed unto rubble)\sls*, and an house shall fall on an house.

\v 18 And if Satan be parted against himself, how shall his realm stand? For ye say, that I cast out fiends in Beelzebub. \sls (And if Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? For ye say, that I throw out devils and demons by Beelzebub.)\sls*
\p
\v 19 And if I in Beelzebub cast out fiends, in whom cast out your sons? \add [or in whom your sons cast out?]\add* Therefore they shall be your doomsmen. \sls (And if I throw out devils and demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons throw them out? And so they shall be your judges.)\sls*

\v 20 But if I cast out fiends in the finger of God, then the realm of God is come among you. \sls (But if I throw out devils and demons by the finger of God, then the Kingdom of God hath come among you, or hath come unto you.)\sls*

\v 21 When a strong, armed man keepeth his house, all things that he wieldeth be in peace \sls (or everything that he possesseth be at peace)\sls*.

\v 22 But if a stronger \sls (man)\sls* than he come upon him, and overcome him, he shall take away all his armour \add [or all his arms]\add* in which he trusted, \sls (or he shall take away all his weapons in which he trusted)\sls*, and shall deal abroad his robberies \add [or his spoils]\add*.

\v 23 He that is not with me, is against me; and he that gathereth not together with me, scattereth abroad.

\v 24 When an unclean spirit goeth out of a man, he wandereth by dry places, and seeketh rest; and he finding none, saith, I shall turn again into mine house, from whence I came out, \sls (or and he finding no place to rest, saith, I shall return to my house, where I came from)\sls*.

\v 25 And when he cometh \sls (back)\sls*, he findeth it cleansed with besoms, and fair arrayed, \add [or adorned]\add*, \sls (or he findeth it swept clean, and neat and tidy)\sls*.

\v 29 And when the people ran together, he began to say, This generation is a wayward generation; it seeketh a token \sls (or a sign)\sls*, and a token shall not be given to it, \add [no]\add* but the token of Jonas the prophet \sls (or except the sign of the prophet Jonah)\sls*.

\v 30 For as Jonas was a token to men of Nineve \sls (or For as Jonah was a sign to the men of Nineveh)\sls*, so man’s Son shall be to this generation.

\v 31 The queen of the south shall rise in \sls (the)\sls* doom with men of this generation, and shall condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth, to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and lo! here is a greater \sls (man)\sls* than Solomon. \sls (The Queen of the South shall rise at the Judgement with men of this generation, and shall condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth, to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold! here is something or someone greater than Solomon.)\sls*

\v 32 Men of Nineve shall rise in \add [the]\add* doom with this generation, and shall condemn it; for they did penance in the preaching of Jonas \add [or for they did penance at the preaching of Jonas]\add*, and lo! here is a greater \sls (man)\sls* than Jonas. \sls (Men of Nineveh shall rise at the Judgement with this generation, and shall condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold! here is something or someone greater than Jonah.)\sls*

\v 33 No man tendeth, \add [or lighteneth]\add*, \sls (or lighteth)\sls*, a lantern, and putteth it in huddles \sls (or hideth it)\sls*, neither under a bushel, but \sls (rather)\sls* on a candlestick, \sls (so)\sls* that they that go in\sls (side)\sls*, see light.

\v 34 The lantern of thy body is thine eye; if thine eye be simple, \sls (or if thine eye is single, or is sound)\sls*, all thy body shall be light\add [-full]\add*; but if it be wayward, all thy body shall be dark-full.

\v 35 Therefore see thou, lest the light that is in thee, be darknesses \sls (or be darkness)\sls*.

\v 36 Therefore if all thy body be bright, and have no part of darknesses, \sls (or And so if all thy body be bright, and have no part with darkness)\sls*, it shall be all bright, and as a lantern of brightness it shall give light to thee. \add [Therefore if all thy body shall be light-full, not having any part of darknesses, it shall be all light-full, and as a lantern of brightness, or shining, it shall give light to thee.]\add*

\v 37 And when he spake, a Pharisee prayed him, that he should eat with him. \v 39 And the Lord said to him, Now ye Pharisees cleanse that that is withoutforth of the cup and the platter; but that thing that is within of you \add [or but that thing of you that is within]\add*, is full of raven and wickedness.

\v 40 Fools, whether he that made that that is withoutforth, made not also that that is within?

\v 41 Nevertheless that that is over-plus, \add [or superfluous]\add*, give ye alms, and lo! all things be clean to you.

\v 43 Woe to you, Pharisees, that love the first chairs in synagogues, and salutations in chapping. \sls (Woe to you, Pharisees, who love the first chairs in the synagogues, and greetings of respect at the marketplace.)\sls*

\v 44 Woe to you, that be as sepulchres \sls (or who be like graves)\sls*, that be not seen \add [or which appear not]\add*, and men walking above know not.

\v 45 But one of the wise men of the law answered, and said to him, Master, thou saying these things, also to us doest despite \add [or doest despite also to us]\add*. \sls (But one of the men wise in the Law said to him, Teacher, thou saying these things, doest disrespect to us, or insultest us.)\sls*

\v 46 And he said, Also woe to you, wise men of \add [the]\add* law, for ye charge men with burdens which they may not bear, and ye yourselves with your one finger touch not the heavinesses. \sls (And he said, And woe to you, men wise in the Law, for ye load men with burdens which they cannot bear, but ye yourselves touch not the heavinesses with even one finger.)\sls*

\v 47 Woe to you, that build \sls (the)\sls* tombs \add [or the burials]\add* of \sls (the)\sls* prophets; and your fathers slew them.

\v 2 For nothing is covered, that shall not be showed; neither hid, that shall not be known. \sls (For nothing is covered, which shall not be shown, or brought out into the open; nor hidden, which shall not be made known.)\sls*

\v 3 For why those things that ye have said in darknesses, shall be said in light; and that that ye have spoken in \add [the]\add* ear in bedchambers, shall be preached in roofs. \sls (Because everything that ye have said in the dark, shall be said in the light; and that which ye have spoken privately in the bedchambers, shall be preached from the rooftops.)\sls*

\v 4 And I say to you, my friends, be ye not afeared of them that slay the body, and after these things have no more what they shall do.

\v 5 But I shall show to you, whom ye shall dread; dread ye him, that after he hath slain, hath power to send into hell. \v 17 And he thought within himself, and said, What shall I do, for I have not whither I shall gather my fruits? \sls (And he thought to himself, and said, What shall I do, for I have no place where I can store all my crops?)\sls*

\v 18 And he saith, This thing I shall do; I shall throw down my barns, and I shall make greater \sls (ones)\sls*, and thither I shall gather all \sls (the)\sls* things that grow to me \sls (or and there I shall gather together all the things that grow for me)\sls*, and \sls (all)\sls* my goods.
\p
\v 19 And I shall say to my soul, Soul, thou hast many goods kept into full many years; rest thou, eat, drink, and make feast.

\v 20 And God said to him, Fool, in this night they shall take \sls (away)\sls* thy life from thee, \add [or Fool, in this night they shall ask of thee thy soul]\add*. And \sls (then)\sls* whose shall those things be, that thou hast arrayed?

\v 21 So is he that treasureth to himself, and is not rich in God.

\v 22 And he said to his disciples, Therefore I say to you, do not ye be busy to your life \sls (or do not be concerned about your life)\sls*, what ye shall eat, neither to your body, with what ye shall be clothed.

\v 23 The life is more than meat \sls (or Life is more than food)\sls*, and the body more than clothing.
\p
\v 24 Behold the crows, for they sow not, neither reap, to which is neither cellar, nor barn, and God feedeth them. How much more ye be of more price than they, \add [or How much more be ye of more price than they]\add*, \sls (or How much more valuable ye be than them)\sls*.

\v 25 And who of you by thinking may put \add [or may add]\add* one cubit to his stature?

\v 26 Therefore if ye may not do that that is \sls (the)\sls* least, what be ye busy of other things? \sls (And so if ye cannot do anything about that which is so little, why be concerned about the other things?)\sls*

\v 27 Behold ye the lilies of the field, how they wax; they travail not, neither spin, \sls (or Look at the lilies of the field, how they grow; they do not labour, nor spin)\sls*. And I say to you, that neither Solomon in all his glory was clothed as one of these.

\v 28 And if God clotheth thus the hay, that today is in the field, and tomorrow is cast into an oven; how much more you of little faith.

\v 29 And do not ye seek, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; and do not ye be raised \sls (up)\sls* on high.

\v 30 For folks of the world seek all these things; and your Father knoweth, that ye have need to all these things. \sls (For the peoples of the world seek all these things; and your Father knoweth, that ye have need of all these things.)\sls*

\v 31 Nevertheless seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be cast to you \sls (or and all these things shall be given to thee)\sls*.

\v 39 And know ye this thing, for if an husbandman knew, in what hour the thief would come, soothly he should wake, and not suffer his house to be \sls (under)\sls*mined, \sls (or truly he would be on watch, and not allow his house to be undermined)\sls*.

\v 40 And be ye ready, for in what hour ye guess not, man’s Son shall come.

\v 41 And Peter said to him, Lord, sayest thou this parable to us, or to all?

\v 49 I came to send fire into the earth, and what will I, but that it be kindled? \sls (I came to send fire onto the earth, and how I wish, that it were already kindled!)\sls*

\v 50 And I have to be baptized with a baptism, and how am I constrained, till that it be perfectly done?

\v 22 And he went by cities and castles \sls (or towns and villages)\sls*, teaching and making journey into Jerusalem.

\v 23 And a man said to him, Lord, if there be few, that be saved? And he said to them,

\v 30 And lo! they that were the first, be the last; and they that were the last, be the first.

\v 31 In that day some of the Pharisees came nigh, and said to him, Go out, and go from hence, for Herod will slay thee.

\v 9 and lest he come that called thee and him, and say to thee, Give place to this, and then thou shalt begin with shame to hold the lowest place.

\v 10 But when thou art bidden to a feast, go, and sit down in the last place, \sls (so)\sls* that when he cometh, that bade thee to the feast, he say to thee, Friend, come \add [up]\add* higher. \v 17 And he sent his servant in the hour of supper, to say to men that were bidden to the feast, that they should come, for now all things be ready.

\v 18 And all began together to excuse them\sls (selves)\sls*. The first said \add [to him]\add*, I have bought a town, and I have need to go out, and see it; I pray thee, have me excused.

\v 19 And the tother said, I have bought five yokes of oxen, and I go to prove them; I pray thee, have me excused.

\v 20 And another said, I have wedded a wife; and therefore I may not come.

\v 21 And the servant turned again \sls (or And the servant returned)\sls*, and told these things to his lord. Then the husbandman was wroth, and said to his servant, Go out swiftly into the great streets and the small streets of the city, and bring in hither poor men, and feeble, \add [and]\add* blind men, and crooked \sls (or and the lame)\sls*.

\v 22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done, as thou hast commanded, and yet there is a \em void\em* place \sls (or and there still be \+em empty\+em* places)\sls*.

\v 24 For I say to you, that none of those men that be called, shall taste my supper.

\v 25 And much people went with him; and he turned, and said to them,

\v 26 If any man cometh to me, and hateth not his father, and mother, and wife, and sons, and brethren, and sisters or sistren, and yet his own life, he may not be my disciple \sls (or he cannot be my disciple)\sls*.

\v 27 And he that beareth not his cross, and cometh after me, may not be my disciple \sls (or cannot be my disciple)\sls*.

\v 28 For who of you willing to build a tower, whether he sit not first or he first sitteth not, and counteth the expenses that be needful, if he have \sls (them)\sls* to perform \sls (it)\sls*? \sls (For who of you desiring to build a tower, will he not first sit, and count out the expenses that be needed, to see if he hath enough money to finish it or to complete it?)\sls*

\v 29 Lest after that he hath set the foundament, and may not perform \sls (it)\sls*, all that see, begin to scorn him, \sls (Lest after that he hath laid the foundation, and cannot finish it, all who see it, begin to scorn him,)\sls*

\v 30 and say, For this man began to build, and might not make an end. \sls (and say, This man began to build, but he could not finish it.)\sls*
\p
\v 31 Or what king that will go to do a battle against another king, whether he sitteth not first, and bethinketh, if he may with ten thousand go to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
\p
\v 32 Else yet while he is afar, he sendeth a messenger, and prayeth \sls (for)\sls* those things that be of peace. \sls (Or else while he is still far off, he sendeth a messenger, and beseecheth for those things that be of peace.)\sls*

\v 34 Salt is good; but if salt vanish, in what thing shall it be savoured?

\v 3 And he spake to them this parable, and said,

\v 10 So I say to you, joy shall be before the angels of God on one sinful man doing penance. \sls (So I tell you, there is joy among the angels of God over one sinner repenting.)\sls*

\v 11 And he said, A man had two sons;

\v 14 And after that he had ended all things, a strong hunger was made in that country, and he began to have need.

\v 17 And he turned again to himself, and said, How many hired men in my father’s house have plenty of loaves; and I perish here through hunger.

\v 18 I shall rise up, and go to my father, and I shall say to him, Father, I have sinned \sls (up)\sls* into heaven \add [or I have sinned against heaven]\add*, and before thee;

\v 19 and now I am not worthy to be called thy son, make me as one of thine hired men.

\v 20 And he rose up, and came to his father. And when he was yet afar, his father saw him, and was stirred by mercy. And he ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

\v 21 And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned \sls (up)\sls* into heaven \add [or I have sinned against heaven]\add*, and before thee; and now I am not worthy to be called thy son.

\v 25 But his elder son was in the field; and when he came, and nighed to the house \sls (or and approached the house)\sls*, he heard a symphony and a crowd.

\v 26 And he called one of the servants, and asked, what these things were.

\v 29 And he answered to his father, and said, Lo! so many years I serve thee, and I never brake thy commandment\sls (s)\sls*; and thou never gave to me a kid, that I with my friends should have eaten.

\v 2 And he called him, and said to him, What hear I this thing of thee? \sls (or Why do I hear this about thee?)\sls* yield \sls (the)\sls* reckoning \sls (or the accounting)\sls* of thy bailiffship, for thou might not now be bailiff, \add [+or yield reason of thy farm, for now thou shalt no more hold the farm]\add*.

\v 5 Therefore when all the debtors of his lord were called together, he said to the first, How much owest thou to my lord?

\v 6 And he said, An hundred barrows of oil. And he said to him, Take thy caution \add [or Take thine obligation]\add*, and sit soon, and write fifty.

\v 7 Afterward he said to another, And how much owest thou? Which answered, An hundred cors of wheat \add [or An hundred measures of wheat]\add*. And he said to him, Take thy letters, and write fourscore.

\v 9 And I say to you, make ye to you friends of the riches of wickedness, \sls (so)\sls* that when ye shall fail, they receive you into everlasting tabernacles.

\v 14 But the Pharisees, that were covetous, heard all these things, and they scorned him.

\v 25 And Abraham said to him, Son, have mind \sls (or remember)\sls*, for thou hast received good things in thy life, and Lazarus also evil things; but he is now comforted, and thou art tormented.

\v 28 Also as it was done in the days of Lot, they ate and drank, bought and sold, planted and builded;

\v 3 And a widow was in that city, and she came to him, and said, \sls (A)\sls*Venge me of mine adversary;

\v 4 and he would not \sls (for a)\sls* long time. But after these things he said within himself, Though I dread not God, and shame not of man, \sls (or Though I do not fear God, and I cannot be shamed by any man)\sls*,

\v 9 And he said also to some men, that trusted in themselves, as \em they were\em* rightful, \add [or that trusted in themselves, as rightful]\add*, \sls (or who believed themselves to be good and righteous)\sls*, and despised others, this parable, saying,

For everyone who exalteth himself, or who raiseth himself up, shall be made low, and he who humbleth himself, shall be exalted, or shall be raised up.)\sls*

\v 15 And they brought to him young children, that he should touch them; and when the disciples saw this thing, they blamed them. \sls (And they brought young children to him, so that he would touch them; and when the disciples saw this, they rebuked them.)\sls*

\v 16 But Jesus called together them, and said, Suffer ye \sls (the)\sls* children to come to me, and do not ye forbid them, for of such is the kingdom of heavens. \sls (But Jesus called them together, and said, Allow the children to come to me, and do not forbid them, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven.)\sls*

\v 17 Truly I say to you, whoever shall not take the kingdom of God as a child, he shall not enter into it. \sls (I tell you the truth, whoever shall not receive, or shall not accept, the Kingdom of God like a child, he shall not enter into it.)\sls*

\v 18 And a prince asked him, and said, Good master, in what thing doing shall I wield everlasting life? \sls (And a leader of the synagogue asked him, and said, Good Teacher, what must I do to get, or to possess, eternal life?)\sls*

\v 19 And Jesus said to him, What sayest thou me \sls (to be)\sls* good? \sls (or Why sayest thou that I am good?)\sls* No man \em is\em* good, but God alone.

\v 27 And he said to them, Those things that be impossible with men, be possible with God.

\v 29 And he said to him, Truly I say to you \sls (or I tell you the truth)\sls*, there is no man that shall forsake house, or father and mother, or brethren, or wife, or children, or fields, for the realm of God \sls (or for the Kingdom of God)\sls*,

\v 38 And he cried, and said, Jesus, the son of David, have mercy on me.

\v 1 And Jesus going in, walked through Jericho.

\p
\v 3 And he sought to see Jesus, who he was, and he might not, for the people, for he was little in stature.

\v 5 And Jesus beheld up, when he came to the place, and saw him, and said to him, Zacchaeus, haste thee, and come down, for today I must dwell in thine house.

\v 10 for man’s Son came to seek, and make safe that thing that perished. \sls (for man’s Son came to seek, and to save those who were lost.)\sls*

\v 11 When they heard these things, he added, and said a parable, for that he was nigh to Jerusalem, and for they guessed, that anon \sls (or at once)\sls* the kingdom of God should be showed.

\v 22 He saith to him, Wicked servant, of thy mouth I deem thee. Knewest thou, that I am an austere man, taking away that thing that I setted not, and reaping that thing that I sowed not \add [or that I have not sown]\add*? \sls (He said to him, Wicked servant, with the words of thy own mouth I shall judge thee. Knewest thou, that I am a stern and hard man, taking away that which I have not brought, and harvesting that which I have not sown?)\sls*

\v 26 And I say to you, to each man that hath, it shall be given, and he shall increase; but from him that hath not, also that thing that he hath, shall be taken of him \add [or shall be taken from him]\add*.

\v 27 Nevertheless bring ye hither those \sls (of)\sls* mine enemies, that would not that I reigned on them, and slay ye \sls (them)\sls* before me. \sls (And bring here those enemies of mine, who do not desire that I reign over them, or who do not want me to rule over them, and kill them before me.)\sls*

\v 30 and said, Go ye into the castle that is against you \sls (or Go into the village that is opposite you)\sls*; into which as ye enter, ye shall find a colt of an ass tied, on which never \sls (any)\sls* man sat; untie ye him, and bring ye \sls (it)\sls* to me.

\v 31 And if any man ask you, why ye untie \sls (it)\sls*, thus ye shall say to him, For the Lord desireth his work.

\v 32 And they that were sent, went forth, and found as he said to them, a colt standing \sls (there)\sls*.

\v 33 And when they untied the colt, the lords of it said to them, What untie ye the colt? \add [or Why untie ye the colt?]\add*

\v 17 But he beheld them, and said, What then is this that is written, The stone which men building reproved, this is made into the head of the corner?

\v 3 And Satan entered into Judas, that was called Iscariot, one of the twelve.

\v 23 and when his body was not found, they came, and said, that they saw also a sight of angels, which said \sls (or who said)\sls*, that he liveth.

\v 24 And some \add [men]\add* of ours went to the grave, and they found so as the women said, but they found not him. \sls (And some of our men went to the tomb, and they found it just as the women had said, but they did not find him.)\sls*

\v 25 And he said to them, A! fools \sls (or O fools!)\sls*, and slow of heart to believe in all \sls (the)\sls* things that the prophets have spoken.

\v 26 Whether it behooved not Christ to suffer these things \sls (or Did it not behoove the Messiah to suffer these things)\sls*, and so to enter into his glory?
\p
\v 27 And he began at Moses and at all the prophets, and declared \add [or expounded]\add* to them in all \sls (the)\sls* scriptures, that were of him \sls (or that were about him)\sls*.

\v 28 And they came nigh to the castle, whither they went, \sls (or And they came near to the village, where they were going)\sls*. And he made countenance that he would go further.

\v 29 And they constrained him, and said, Dwell with us \sls (or Remain with us)\sls*, for it draweth to \sls (the)\sls* night, and the day is now bowed down. And \sls (so)\sls* he entered \add [in]\add* with them.

\v 30 And it was done, while he sat at the meat with them \sls (or while he sat down for the meal with them)\sls*, he took bread, and blessed \sls (it)\sls*, and brake \sls (it)\sls*, and \sls (then)\sls* took \sls (it)\sls* to them \add [or and \+sls (then)\+sls* gave \+sls (it)\+sls* to them]\add*.

\v 31 And the eyes of them were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished from their eyes.

\v 32 And they said together, Whether our heart was not burning in us, while he spake to us in the way, and \add [he]\add* opened to us \add [the]\add* scriptures? \sls (And they said to each other, Were not our hearts burning in us, while he spoke to us on the way, and he opened the Scriptures to us?)\sls*

\v 33 And they rose up in the same hour, and went again into Jerusalem \add [or \+sls (and)\+sls* went again to Jerusalem]\add*, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, \sls (And they rose up at once, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the Eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,)\sls*

\v 34 saying, That the Lord is risen verily, and appeared to Simon. \sls (and they were saying, Truly the Lord hath risen, or It is true that the Lord hath risen, and hath appeared to Simon.)\sls*

\v 35 And they told what things were done in the way \sls (or And then they told them what had happened on the way)\sls*, and how they knew him in \sls (the)\sls* breaking of \sls (the)\sls* bread.

\v 36 And while they spake these things, Jesus stood in the middle of them, and said to them, Peace \sls (be)\sls* to you; I am \sls (here)\sls*, do not ye dread. \sls (And while they spoke of these things, suddenly Jesus stood in their midst, and said to them, Peace be to you; I am here, do not fear, or do not be afraid.)\sls*

\v 37 But they were afraid and aghast, and guessed them\sls (selves)\sls* to see a spirit.
\p
\v 38 And he said to them, What be ye troubled \sls (or Why be ye troubled)\sls*, and thoughts come up into your hearts?
\p
\v 39 See ye my hands and my feet, for I myself am \sls (or for I am here)\sls*. Feel ye, and see ye; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see that I have.

\v 40 And when he had said this thing, he showed \sls (his)\sls* hands and feet to them.
\p
\v 41 And yet while they believed not, and wondered for joy, he said, Have ye here anything that shall be eaten? \add [or Have ye anything here that shall be eaten?]\add*
\p
\v 42 And they proffered to him a part of a fish roasted, and an honeycomb. \add [And they offered to him a part of a fish roasted, and a comb of honey.]\add*
\p
\v 43 And when he had eaten before them, he took that that \sls (was)\sls* left, and gave \sls (it)\sls* to them;

\v 44 and \add [he]\add* said to them, These be the words that I spake to you, when I was yet with you; for it is need\sls (ful)\sls* that all things be fulfilled, that be written in the law of Moses, and in \sls (the)\sls* prophets, and in \sls (the)\sls* psalms, of me \sls (or about me)\sls*.

\v 45 Then he opened to them wit, that they should understand \add [the]\add* scriptures. \sls (Then he opened their minds, or their thinking, so that they could understand the Scriptures.)\sls*

\v 46 And he said to them, For thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer \sls (or and thus it behooved the Messiah to suffer)\sls*, and rise again from death the third day \add [or and rise again from \+sls (the)\+sls* dead the third day]\add*;

\v 47 and penance, and remission of sins to be preached in his name to all folks, beginning at Jerusalem. \sls (and repentance, and forgiveness of sins to be preached in his name to all the nations and all the peoples, beginning at Jerusalem.)\sls*

\v 48 And ye be \sls (the)\sls* witnesses of these things.

\v 49 And I shall send the promise of my Father into you; but sit ye in the city, till ye be clothed with virtue from on high, \sls (or but remain in the city, until ye be clothed with power from on high)\sls*.

\v 50 And he led them forth into Bethany, and when his hands were lifted up, he blessed them.
\p
\v 51 And it was done, the while he blessed them \add [or while he blessed them]\add*, he departed from them, and was borne \sls (up)\sls* into heaven.

\v 52 And they worshipped \sls (him)\sls*, and went again into Jerusalem with great joy,

\v 53 and were \sls (for)\sls*evermore in the temple \sls (or and were always in the Temple)\sls*, praising and blessing God.
