\v 21 But he said of the temple of his body.

\v 4 And it behooved him to pass by Samaria. \sls (And it was necessary that he pass through Samaria.)\sls*

\v 5 Therefore Jesus came into a city of Samaria, that is called Sychar, beside the place \add [or the field]\add* that Jacob gave to Joseph, his son.

\v 20 Our fathers worshipped in this hill, and ye \sls (Jews)\sls* say, that at Jerusalem is a place, where it behooveth \sls (all)\sls* to worship.

\v 21 Jesus saith to her, Woman, believe thou to me, for the hour shall come, when neither in this hill, neither in Jerusalem, ye shall worship the Father.

\v 22 Ye worship that that ye know not; we worship that that we know; for health is of the Jews, \sls (or for salvation is from the Jews, or salvation cometh from the Jews)\sls*.
\p
\v 23 But the time is come, and now it is, when true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for also the Father seeketh such, that worship him.
\p
\v 24 God is a Spirit, and it behooveth them that worship him, to worship in spirit and truth.
\p
\v 25 The woman saith to him, I know that Messias is \sls (to)\sls* come, that is said Christ, \sls (or I know that the Messiah is to come, who is called Christ)\sls*; therefore when he cometh, he shall tell us all things.

\v 26 Jesus saith to her, I am he \add [or I am]\add*, that speaketh with thee.

\v 27 And anon his disciples came, and wondered, that he spake with the woman; nevertheless no man said to him, What seekest thou, or, What speakest thou with her? \sls (And at once his disciples came back, and were surprised, that he spoke with the woman; nevertheless no one said to him, Why speakest thou with her?)\sls*

\v 28 Therefore the woman left her water pot, and went into the city, and said to the men,

\v 30 And they went out of the city, and came to him.

\v 35 Whether ye say not, that yet four months be, and ripe corn cometh? Lo! I say to you, lift up your eyes, and see ye the fields, for now they be white to reap. \sls (Do ye not say, that there still be four months, and then the harvest shall come? Behold! I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see ye the fields, for they be ready to be harvested now!)\sls*

\v 36 And he that reapeth taketh hire, and gathereth fruit into everlasting life, \sls (or And he who harvesteth receiveth his wages, and gathereth crops for eternal life)\sls*; \sls (so)\sls* that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth, have joy together.

\v 37 In this thing is the word true, For one is that soweth, and another that reapeth.

\v 38 I sent you to reap, that that ye have not travailed, \sls (or I sent you to harvest, that which ye have not laboured over)\sls*; other men have travailed, and ye have entered into their travails.

\v 45 Therefore when he came into Galilee, men of Galilee received him, when they had seen all \sls (the)\sls* things that he had done in Jerusalem in the feast day \sls (or for they had seen all the things that he had done in Jerusalem on the Feast Day, or at the Festival)\sls*; for also they had come to the feast day.

\v 46 Therefore he came again into the Cana of Galilee, where he made the water \add [into]\add* wine. And there was a little king \sls (or And there was a royal official)\sls*, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

\v 47 When this \sls (man)\sls* had heard, that Jesus should come from Judea into Galilee, he went to him, and prayed him \sls (or beseeched him)\sls*, that he should come down, and heal his son; for he began to die.

\v 48 Therefore Jesus said to him, But ye see tokens, and great wonders, ye believe not. \sls (And Jesus said to him, Unless ye see signs or miracles, and great wonders, ye will not believe.)\sls*

\v 49 The little king saith to him \sls (or The royal official said to him)\sls*, Lord, come down, before that my son die.

\v 53 Therefore the father knew, that that hour it was, in which Jesus said to him, Thy son liveth; and he believed, and all his house.

\v 1 After these things there was a feast day of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

\v 2 And in Jerusalem is a washing place \sls (or a pool)\sls*, that in Hebrew is called Bethesda, and \sls (it)\sls* hath five porches. \add [Forsooth at Jerusalem is a standing water of beasts \+sls (or a watering pool for beasts)\+sls*, that in Hebrew is called Bethesda, having five little gates, or entries.]\add*

\v 3 In these lay a great multitude of sick men, blind, crooked \sls (or lame)\sls*, and dry \sls (or withered)\sls*, abiding \sls (or waiting for)\sls* the moving \add [or the stirring]\add* of the water.

\v 4 For the angel of the Lord came down \sls (at)\sls* certain times into the \add [standing]\add* water \sls (or into the pool)\sls*, and the water was moved; and he that first came down into the cistern, after the moving of the water, was made whole \sls (or was healed)\sls* of whatever sickness he was held \sls (by)\sls*.

\v 5 And a man was there, having eight and thirty years in his sickness.

\v 6 And when Jesus had seen him lying \sls (there)\sls*, and had known, that he had much time \sls (there)\sls*, he saith to him, Wilt thou be made whole?

\v 15 \sls (Then)\sls* That man went, and told to the Jews, that it was Jesus that made him whole.

\v 16 Therefore the Jews pursued Jesus, for he did this thing in the sabbath. \sls (And so the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did this miracle on the Sabbath.)\sls*

\v 17 And Jesus answered to them, My Father worketh till now, and I work.
\p
\v 18 Therefore the Jews sought more to slay him, for not only he brake the sabbath, but he said that God was his Father, and made him\sls (self)\sls* even \sls (or equal)\sls* to God.

\v 19 Therefore Jesus answered, and said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, \sls (or Truly, I tell you the truth)\sls*, the Son may not of himself do anything, \add [no]\add* but that thing that he seeth the Father doing; for whatever things he doeth, the Son doeth in like manner those things.

\v 20 For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth to him all \sls (the)\sls* things that he doeth; and he shall show to him greater works than these, \sls (so)\sls* that ye wonder.

\v 21 For as the Father raiseth dead men, and quickeneth \sls (them)\sls*, so the Son quickeneth whom he will. \sls (For as the Father raiseth the dead, and giveth them life, so the Son giveth life to whomever he desireth.)\sls*

\v 22 For neither the Father judgeth any man, but hath given every doom to the Son, \sls (For the Father judgeth no one, but hath given every judgement to the Son,)\sls*

\v 23 \sls (so)\sls* that all men honour the Son, as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son, honoureth not the Father that sent him.
\p
\v 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, \sls (or Truly, I tell you the truth)\sls*, that he that heareth my word, and believeth in him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and he cometh not into doom, \sls (or hath eternal life, and he cometh not unto judgement)\sls*, but passeth from death into life.

\v 26 For as the Father hath life in himself, so he gave to the Son, to have life in himself;

\v 27 and he gave to him power to make doom, \sls (or and he gave him the authority to pass judgement)\sls*, for he is man’s Son.

\v 28 Do not ye wonder in this, for the hour cometh, in which all men that be in burials, shall hear the voice of God’s Son. \sls (Do not wonder at this, for the hour cometh, in which all those who be in graves, shall hear the voice of God’s Son.)\sls*

\v 29 And they that have done good things, shall go into again-rising of life \add [or shall come forth into rising again of life]\add*; but they that have done evil things, into again-rising of doom. \sls (And they who have done good, shall be resurrected for life; but they who have done evil, shall be resurrected for judgement or for condemnation.)\sls*

\v 30 I may nothing do of myself, but as I hear, I deem, \add [or I may not of myself do anything, but as I hear, I judge]\add*, and my doom is just \sls (or and my judgement is just and fair)\sls*, for I seek not my will, but the will of the Father that sent me.

\v 31 If I bear witnessing of myself, my witnessing is not true; \sls (If I testify about myself, my testimony is not accepted as true;)\sls*

\v 32 another is that beareth witnessing of me, and I know that his witnessing is true, that he beareth of me. \sls (but there is another who testifieth about me, and I know that his testimony is true, what he testifieth about me.)\sls*

\v 33 Ye sent to John, and he bare witnessing to \add [the]\add* truth. \sls (Ye sent messengers to John, and he testified about the truth, or and he testified truthfully.)\sls*

\v 34 But I take not witnessing of \sls (any)\sls* man; but I say these things, that ye be safe. \sls (But I do not need the testimony of anyone; but I say these things, so that ye can be saved.)\sls*

\v 38 And ye have not his word dwelling in you; for ye believe not to him, whom he sent.

\v 42 but I have known you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

\v 43 I came in the name of my Father, and ye took not me \sls (or but ye did not receive me)\sls*. If another come in his own name, ye shall receive him.

\v 44 How may ye believe, that receive glory each of \sls (the)\sls* other, and ye seek not the glory that is of God alone? \sls (How can ye believe, ye who receive your glory from one another, and seek not the glory that is from God alone?)\sls*

\v 45 Do not ye guess, that I am to accuse you with the Father; it is Moses that accuseth you, in whom ye hope.

\v 46 For if ye believed to Moses, peradventure ye should believe also to me; for he wrote of me. \sls (For if ye believed Moses, perhaps ye would also believe me; for he wrote about me.)\sls*

\v 47 But if ye believe not to his letters, how shall ye believe to my words? \sls (But if ye do not believe what he wrote, how shall ye believe what I say?)\sls*

\v 2 And a great multitude \sls (pur)\sls*sued him; for they saw the tokens that he did on them that were sick. \sls (And a great multitude followed him; for they saw the signs or miracles that he did for those who were sick.)\sls*

\v 3 Therefore Jesus went into an hill \sls (or And so Jesus went up onto a hill)\sls*, and sat there with his disciples.
\p
\v 4 And the pask was full nigh, a feast day of the Jews. \sls (And the Passover was very near, a Feast Day, or a Festival, for the Jews.)\sls*
\p
\v 5 Therefore when Jesus had lifted up his eyes, and had seen, that a great multitude came to him, he saith to Philip, Whereof shall we buy loaves, \sls (so)\sls* that these men eat?

\v 6 But he said this thing, tempting him \sls (or testing him)\sls*; for he knew what he was to do.
\p
\v 7 Philip answered to him, The loaves of two hundred pence suffice not to them, \sls (so)\sls* that each man \sls (can)\sls* take a little \sls (some)\sls*what.

\v 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, saith to him,

\v 9 A child is here, that hath five barley loaves and two fishes; but what be these among so many?

\v 10 Therefore Jesus saith, Make them sit to the meat. And there was much hay in the place. And so men sat to the meat, as five thousand in number. \add [Therefore Jesus saith, Make ye men to sit at the meat. Forsooth there was much hay in the place. Therefore men sat at the meat, in number as five thousand.]\add*\sls (And so Jesus said, Make them to sit down for the meal. And there was much hay in that place. \v 11 And Jesus took \add [the]\add* five loaves, and when he had done thankings, he parted \sls (them)\sls* to the men that sat to the meat \add [or he parted to men sitting at the meat]\add*, and also of the fishes, as much as they would. \sls (And Jesus took the five loaves, and when he had given thanks, he divided them to those who sat down for the meal, and also the fish, as much as they wanted.)\sls*

\v 14 Therefore those men, when they had seen the sign \add [or the token, or \+sls (the)\+sls* miracle]\add*, that he had done, said, For this is verily the prophet \sls (or For he is truly the Prophet)\sls*, that is to come into the world.

\v 18 And for a great wind blew, the sea rose up.

\v 19 Therefore when they had rowed as five and twenty furlongs or thirty, they saw Jesus walking on the sea, and to be nigh the boat; and they dreaded, \sls (or and they had fear, or and they were afraid)\sls*.

\v 20 And he said to them, I am \sls (here)\sls*; do not ye dread \sls (or do not fear)\sls*.

\v 21 Therefore they would take him into the boat, and anon the boat was at the land \sls (or and at once the boat was at the land)\sls*, to which they went.

\v 22 On the tother day \sls (or On the next day)\sls*, the people, that stood over the sea, saw, that there was none other boat there but that one, and that Jesus entered not with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples alone went \add [or but his disciples went alone]\add*.

\v 23 But other boats came from Tiberias beside the place, where they had eaten bread, and did thankings to God \sls (or and gave thanks to God)\sls*.

\v 24 Therefore when the people had seen, that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they went up into boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

\v 25 And when they had found him over the sea, they said to him, Rabbi \sls (or Teacher)\sls*, how camest thou hither?
\p
\v 26 Jesus answered to them, and said, Truly, truly, I say to you \sls (or Truly, I tell you the truth)\sls*, ye seek me, not for ye saw the miracles, but for ye ate of the loaves, and were \add [ful]\add* filled.

\v 27 Work ye not \sls (for)\sls* meat that perisheth, but \sls (for)\sls* that that dwelleth into everlasting life, which \em meat\em* man’s Son shall give to you; for God the Father hath marked him. \sls (Work not for the food that perisheth, but for that which remaineth unto eternal life, which\+em food\+em* man’s Son shall give to you; for God the Father hath sealed him.)\sls*

\v 28 Therefore they said to him, What shall we do, \sls (so)\sls* that we work the works of God?

\v 29 Jesus answered, and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe to him \sls (or so that ye believe in him)\sls*, whom he sent.

\v 30 Therefore they said to him, What token then doest thou, that we see, and believe to thee? what workest thou? \sls (And so they said to him, Then what sign doest thou, so that we can see it, and believe in thee? what miracle workest thou?)\sls*

\v 31 Our fathers ate manna in \sls (the)\sls* desert, as it is written, He gave to them bread from heaven to eat.
\p
\v 32 Therefore Jesus saith to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Moses gave you not bread from heaven, but my Father giveth you very bread from heaven; \sls (And so Jesus said to them, Truly, I tell you the truth, it is not Moses that gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father, who now giveth you the true bread from heaven;)\sls*

\v 33 for it is very bread that cometh down from heaven \sls (or for it is the true bread which cometh down from heaven)\sls*, and giveth life to the world.

\v 38 For I came down from heaven, not that I do my will, but the will of him that sent me.

\v 44 No man may come to me, but if the Father that sent me, draw him, \add [or no but the Father that sent me, draw him]\add*; and I shall again-raise him in the last day. \sls (No one can come to me, unless the Father who sent me, draw him; and I shall raise each one up on the Last Day.)\sls*

\v 45 It is written in the prophets, And all men shall be able to be taught of God \sls (or Everyone shall be taught by God)\sls*. Each man that hath heard of the Father, and hath learned, cometh to me.

\v 46 Not for any man hath seen the Father, but this that is of God, hath seen the Father. \sls (Not that anyone hath seen the Father, but he who is from God, hath seen the Father.)\sls*

\v 50 This is \sls (the)\sls* bread coming down from heaven, that if any man eat thereof, he die not, \sls (or so that if anyone eat of it, they shall not die)\sls*.

\v 51 I am \sls (the)\sls* living bread, that came down from heaven. If any man eat of this bread, he shall live \sls (into)\sls* without end. And the bread that I shall give, is my flesh for the life of the world.

\v 52 Therefore the Jews chided together, and said, How may this give to us his flesh to eat?

\v 5 For neither his brethren believed in him.

\v 6 Therefore Jesus saith to them, My time came not yet, but your time is \sls (for)\sls*evermore ready. \sls (My hour hath not yet come, or It is not yet my time, but it is always your time.)\sls*

\v 7 The world may not hate you, soothly it hateth me; for I bear witnessing thereof \sls (or for I testify to it)\sls*, that the works of it be evil.

\v 16 Jesus answered to them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.

\v 18 He that speaketh of himself, seeketh his own glory; but he that seeketh the glory of him that sent him, is soothfast \sls (or is truthful)\sls*, and unrightwiseness is not in him.

\v 20 And the people answered, and said, Thou hast a devil; who seeketh to slay thee?

\v 21 Jesus answered, and said to them, I have done one work, and all ye wonder.

\v 22 Therefore Moses gave to you circumcision; not for it is of Moses, but of the fathers, \sls (or not that it was from Moses, but from the fathers)\sls*; and in \sls (or on)\sls* the sabbath ye circumcise a man.

\v 26 and lo! he speaketh openly, and they say nothing to him. Whether the princes know verily that this is Christ? \sls (or Perhaps our leaders know that he is truly the Messiah?)\sls*

\v 27 But we know this \em man\em*, of whence he is; but when Christ shall come, no man knoweth of whence he is. \sls (And yet we know this \+em man\+em*, where he is from; but when the Messiah shall come, no one shall know where he is from.)\sls*

\v 43 Therefore dissension was made among the people for him.

\v 4 and said to him, Master, this woman is now taken in adultery. \sls (and said to him, Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery.)\sls*

\v 5 And in the law Moses commanded us to stone such; therefore what sayest thou?

\v 6 And they said this thing tempting \sls (or to test)\sls* him, \sls (so)\sls* that they might accuse him. And Jesus bowed himself down, and wrote with his finger in the earth \sls (or and wrote on the ground with his finger)\sls*.

\v 14 Jesus answered, and said to them, And if I bear witnessing of myself, my witnessing is true, \sls (or Jesus answered, and said to them, And if I testify about myself, then my testimony is true)\sls*; for I know from whence I came, and whither I go. But ye know not from whence I came, nor whither I go.

\v 15 For ye deem after the flesh, but I deem no man; \sls (For ye judge after the flesh, but I judge no man;)\sls*

\v 16 and if I deem, my doom is true, \sls (or and if I judge, then my judgement is true)\sls*, for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

\v 17 And in your law it is written, that the witnessing of two men is true. \sls (And in your Law it is written, that the testimony of two men who agree is true.)\sls*

\v 18 I am, that bear witnessing of myself, and the Father that sent me, beareth witnessing of me. \sls (I am he, who giveth testimony about myself, and the Father who sent me, also giveth testimony about me.)\sls*

\v 19 Therefore they said to him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Neither ye know me, nor ye know my Father; if ye knew me, peradventure ye should know also my Father.

\v 20 Jesus spake these words in the treasury, teaching in the temple; and no man took \sls (hold of)\sls* him, for his hour came not yet, \sls (or for his hour had not yet come, or for it was not yet his time)\sls*.

\v 21 Therefore again Jesus said to them, Lo! I go, and ye shall seek me, and ye shall die in your sin; whither I go, ye may not come, \sls (or where I go, ye cannot come)\sls*.

\v 22 Therefore the Jews said, Whether he shall slay himself, for he saith, Whither I go, ye may not come? \sls (And so the Jews said, Shall he kill himself, for he said, Where I go, ye cannot come?)\sls*

\v 23 And he said to them, Ye be of beneath, I am of above; ye be of this world, I am not of this world.

\v 24 Therefore I said to you, that ye shall die in your sins; for if ye believe not that I am, ye shall die in your sins.

\v 30 When he spake these things, many believed in him.

\v 31 Therefore Jesus said to the Jews, that believed in him, If ye dwell in my word, verily, ye shall be my disciples, \sls (or If ye remain in my word, truly, ye shall be my disciples)\sls*;

\v 32 and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

\v 33 Therefore the Jews answered to him, We be the seed of Abraham, and we served never to \sls (any)\sls* man, \add [or and to no man we served ever]\add*, \sls (or and we were never in servitude, or in slavery, to any man)\sls*; how sayest thou, That ye shall be free?

\v 39 They answered, and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them, If ye be the sons of Abraham, \sls (then)\sls* do ye the works of Abraham.

\v 40 But now ye seek to slay me, a man that have spoken to you \add [the]\add* truth, that I heard of God \sls (or that I heard from God)\sls*; Abraham did not this thing.

\v 41 Ye do the works of your father. Therefore they said to him, We be not born of fornication; we have \sls (but)\sls* one Father, God.

\v 46 Who of you shall reprove me of sin? if I say \sls (the)\sls* truth, why believe ye not to me? \sls (Who of you can prove me guilty of sin? or can convict me of sin? if I speak the truth, then why do ye not believe me?)\sls*

\v 47 He that is of God, heareth the words of God; therefore ye hear not, \sls (or and so ye cannot hear, or and so ye will not listen)\sls*, for ye be not of God.

\v 50 For I seek not my glory; there is he, that seeketh, and deemeth. \sls (Because I do not seek my own glory; but there is He, who seeketh it, and judgeth for me.)\sls*

\v 53 Whether thou art greater than our father Abraham, that is dead, and the prophets be dead; whom makest thou thyself?

\v 10 Therefore they said to him, How be thine eyes opened?

\v 17 Therefore they said again to the blind man, What sayest thou of him, that opened thine eyes? And he said, That he is a prophet.

\v 18 Therefore the Jews believed not of him, that he was blind, and had seen, till they called his father and mother, that had seen.

\v 19 And they asked them, and said, Is this your son, which ye say was born blind? how then seeth he now?
\p
\v 20 His father and mother answered to them, and said, We know, that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
\p
\v 21 but how he seeth now, we know not, or who opened his eyes, we know not; ask ye him, he hath age, speak he of himself, \sls (or you ask him, he is old enough, yea, let him speak for himself)\sls*.

\v 24 Therefore again they called the man, that was blind, and said to him, Give thou glory to God; we know, that this man is a sinner.

\v 25 Then he said, If he is a sinner, I know not; one thing I know, that when I was blind, now I see. \sls (Then he said, If he is a sinner, I do not know; but the one thing I do know, is that before I was blind, and now I can see.)\sls*

\v 26 Therefore they said to him, What did he \sls (do)\sls* to thee? how opened he thine eyes?

\v 31 And we know, that God heareth not sinful men, but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, he heareth him.

\v 1 Truly, truly, I say to you, \sls (or Truly, I tell you the truth)\sls*, he that cometh not in by the door into the fold of \add [the]\add* sheep, but ascendeth \add [up]\add* by another way, is a night thief and a day thief.

\v 2 But he that entereth by the door, is the shepherd of the sheep.

\v 3 To this the porter openeth, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

\v 4 And when he hath done out \add [or he hath sent out]\add* his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep \sls (pur)\sls*sue him \sls (or and the sheep follow him)\sls*; for they know his voice.
\p

\v 6 Jesus said to them this proverb; but they knew not what he spake to them.

\v 8 As many as have come, were night thieves and day thieves, but the sheep heard not them \sls (or but the sheep did not listen to them)\sls*.

\v 16 I have other sheep, that be not of this fold, and it behooveth me to bring them together, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be made one fold and one shepherd.

\v 18 No man taketh it from me, but I put it of myself. I have power to put it, and I have power to take it again. \v 19 Again dissension was made among the Jews for these words.

\v 24 Therefore the Jews came about him, and said to him, How long takest thou away our soul? if thou art Christ \sls (or if thou art the Messiah)\sls*, say thou to us openly \add [or plainly]\add*.

\v 25 Jesus answered to them, I speak to you, and ye believe not; the works that I do in the name of my Father, bear witnessing of me \sls (or testify about me)\sls*.

\v 26 But ye believe not, for ye be not of my sheep.

\v 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they \sls (pur)\sls*sue me \sls (or and they follow me)\sls*.

\v 31 The Jews took up stones, to stone him.

\v 32 Jesus answered to them, I have showed to you many good works of my Father, for which work of them stone ye me?

\v 33 The Jews answered to him, We stone thee not of good work, but of blasphemy, \sls (or We stone thee not for good works, but for thy blasphemy)\sls*, and for thou, since thou art a man, makest thyself God.

\v 34 Jesus answered to them, Whether it is not written in your law, That I said, Ye be gods?
\p
\v 35 If he said that they were gods, to whom the word of God was made, and the scripture may not be undone \sls (or and the Scripture cannot be destroyed)\sls*,

\v 36 that that the Father hath hallowed, and hath sent into the world, ye say, That thou blasphemest, for I said, I am God’s Son?

\v 37 If I do not the works of my Father, do not ye believe to me;

\v 38 but if I do, though ye will not believe to me, believe ye to the works \sls (or believe in the works)\sls*; \sls (so)\sls* that ye know and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.

\v 39 Therefore they sought to take \sls (hold of)\sls* him, and he went out of their hands.

\v 1 And there was a sick man, Lazarus of Bethany, of the castle of Mary and Martha, his sisters, \sls (or in the village of Mary and Martha, his sisters)\sls*.

\v 2 And it was Mary, which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hairs, whose brother Lazarus was sick.
\p
\v 3 Therefore his sisters sent to him, and said, Lord, lo! he whom thou lovest, is sick.

\v 4 And Jesus heard, and said to them, This sickness is not to the death, but for the glory of God, \sls (so)\sls* that man’s Son be glorified by him \add [or \+sls (so)\+sls* that God’s Son be glorified by it]\add*.
\p
\v 5 And Jesus loved Martha, and her sister Mary, and Lazarus.
\p
\v 6 Therefore when Jesus heard, that he was sick, then he dwelled in the same place \sls (for)\sls* two days.

\v 7 And after these things he said to his disciples, Go we again into Judea.
\p
\v 8 The disciples say to him, Master \add [or Rabbi]\add*, now the Jews sought to stone thee, and again goest thou thither? \sls (The disciples said to him, Teacher, not long ago the Jews sought to stone thee there, and now thou goest there again?)\sls*

\v 9 Jesus answered, Whether there be not twelve hours of the day? \sls (or Be there not twelve hours in the day?)\sls* If any man wander in the day \add [or Whoever walketh in the day]\add*, he hurteth not \sls (himself)\sls*, for he seeth the light of this world.

\v 10 But if he wander in the night \sls (or But if he walk in the night)\sls*, he stumbleth, for \sls (the)\sls* light is not in \sls (or with)\sls* him.

\v 11 He said these things, and after these things he saith to them, Lazarus, our friend, sleepeth, but I go to raise him from sleep.

\v 12 Therefore his disciples said, Lord, if he sleepeth, he shall be safe. \sls (And so his disciples said, Lord, if he sleepeth, then he shall be secure or he shall be whole again.)\sls*
\p
\v 13 But Jesus had said of his death; but they guessed, that he said of \add [the]\add* sleeping of sleep.

\v 14 Then therefore Jesus said to them openly, Lazarus is dead;

\v 15 and I have joy for you, that ye believe, for I was not there; but go we to him. \sls (and I am happy for you, that your faith will increase, because I was not there; let us go to him.)\sls*

\v 16 Therefore Thomas, that is said Didymus, said to \sls (his)\sls* even-disciples, Go we also, that we die with him. \sls (And Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, Let us also go, so that we can die with him.)\sls*

\v 17 And so Jesus came, and found him having then four days in the grave.

\v 18 And Bethany was beside Jerusalem, as it were fifteen furlongs.

\v 19 And many of the Jews came to Mary and Martha, to comfort them of their brother \sls (or to comfort them over their brother’s death)\sls*.
\p
\v 20 Therefore as Martha heard, that Jesus came, she ran to him; but Mary sat at home.
\p
\v 21 Therefore Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if thou haddest been here, my brother had not be dead, \sls (or Lord, if thou haddest been here, my brother would not have died)\sls*.
\p
\v 22 But now I know, that whatever things thou shalt ask of God, God shall give to thee.
\p
\v 23 Jesus saith to her, Thy brother shall rise again.
\p
\v 24 Martha saith to him, I know, that he shall rise again in the again-rising in the last day. \sls (Martha said to him, I know, that he shall rise again at the resurrection on the Last Day.)\sls*

\v 25 Jesus saith to her, I am again-rising and life \sls (or I am the resurrection and the life)\sls*; he that believeth in me, yea, though he be dead, he shall live;

\v 26 and each that liveth \add [or and all that liveth]\add*, and believeth in me, shall not die \add [into]\add* without end. Believest thou this thing?

\v 29 She, as she heard, arose anon \sls (or got up at once)\sls*, and came to him.

\v 30 And Jesus came not yet into the castle \sls (or And Jesus was not yet in the village)\sls*, but he was yet in that place, where Martha had come to meet him.

\v 31 Therefore the Jews that were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose swiftly, and went out, they \sls (pur)\sls*sued her \sls (or they followed her)\sls*, and said, For she goeth to the grave, to weep there.
\p
\v 32 But when Mary was come \sls (to)\sls* where Jesus was, she seeing him felled down to his feet, and said to him, Lord, if thou haddest been here, my brother had not be dead, \sls (or Lord, if thou haddest been here, my brother would not have died)\sls*.

\v 33 Therefore when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping that were with her, he made noise in \sls (his)\sls* spirit \sls (or he sighed loudly)\sls*, and \sls (he was)\sls* troubled himself,

\v 34 and said, Where have ye laid him? They said to him, Lord, come, and see.

\v 35 And Jesus wept.

\v 36 Therefore the Jews said, Lo! how he loved him.

\v 37 And some of them said, Whether this \em man\em* that opened the eyes of the born-blind \em man\em*, might not make that this \sls (man)\sls* should not die?

\v 38 Therefore Jesus again making noise in himself, came to the grave. And there was a den, and a stone was laid thereon. \sls (And so Jesus again sighing loudly, came to the tomb. And it was a cave, and a stone was laid against the entrance to it.)\sls*

\v 39 And Jesus saith, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith to him, Lord, he stinketh now, for he hath lain \sls (there)\sls* four days \add [or soothly he is of four days dead]\add*.

\v 40 Jesus saith to her, Have I not said to thee, that if thou believest, thou shalt see the glory of God?

\v 45 Therefore many of the Jews that came to Mary and Martha, and saw what things Jesus did, believed in him.

\v 46 But some of them went to the Pharisees, and said to them, what things Jesus had done.
\p
\v 47 Therefore the bishops \sls (or And so the high priests)\sls*, and the Pharisees gathered a council against Jesus, and said, What do we \sls (do)\sls*? for this man doeth many miracles \add [or many signs]\add*.
\p
\v 48 If we leave him thus, all men shall believe in him; and \sls (then the)\sls* Romans shall come, and shall take \sls (away)\sls* our place, and our folk. \sls (If we leave him alone, everyone shall believe in him; and then the Romans shall come, and shall destroy our Temple, and our nation.)\sls*

\v 49 But one of them, Caiaphas by name, when he was bishop of that year \sls (or who was the High Priest that year)\sls*, said to them, Ye know nothing,

\v 50 nor think, that it speedeth to you, that one man die for the people, and that all the folk perish not. \sls (nor understand, that it is more expedient for you, that one man should die for the people, so that the whole nation shall not perish.)\sls*

\v 51 But he said not this thing of himself, but when he was bishop of that year, he prophesied, that Jesus was to die for the folk, \sls (But he did not say this of his own accord, but as he was the High Priest that year, he had prophesied, that Jesus was to die for the nation,)\sls*

\v 52 and not only for the folk \sls (or and not only die for the nation)\sls*, but that he should gather into one the sons of God that were scattered.

\v 53 Therefore from that day \sls (forth)\sls* they thought, \sls (or sought)\sls*, \sls (or made plans)\sls* for \sls (how)\sls* to slay him.

\v 54 Therefore Jesus walked not then openly among the Jews; but he went into a country\sls (side)\sls* beside \add [the]\add* desert \sls (or but he went into the countryside near the desert)\sls*, into a city, that is said Ephraim, and there he dwelled with his disciples.

\v 1 Therefore Jesus before six days of pask came to Bethany, where Lazarus had been dead, whom Jesus raised \sls (from the dead)\sls*. \sls (And so six days before the Passover Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus had died, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.)\sls*
\p
\v 2 And they made to him a supper there, and Martha ministered to him; and Lazarus was one of the men that sat at the meat with him. \sls (And they made a supper for him there, and Martha served him; and Lazarus was one of the men who sat at the meal with him.)\sls*
\p
\v 3 Therefore Mary took a pound of ointment of true nard \add [or spikenard]\add* precious, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hairs; and the house was full-filled with the savour of the ointment.

\v 4 Therefore Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, that was to betray him, said,

\v 5 Why is not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to poor men? \sls (Why is this ointment not sold for three hundred pennies, and that given to the poor?)\sls*

\v 6 But he said this thing, not for it pertained to him of needy men, but for he was a thief, and had the purses, and bare those things that were sent \sls (into them)\sls*, \sls (or and carried off whatever was put into them)\sls*.

\v 7 Therefore Jesus said, Suffer ye her, that into the day of my burying she keep that \sls (which is left)\sls*; \sls (And so Jesus said, Allow her, or Let her, do this, so that on the day of my burial she can use what is left;)\sls*

\v 8 for ye shall \sls (for)\sls*evermore have poor men with you, but ye shall not \sls (for)\sls*evermore have me. \sls (for ye shall always have the poor with you, but ye shall not always have me.)\sls*

\v 9 Therefore much people of the Jews knew, that Jesus was there; and they came, not only for Jesus, but to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from death \add [or whom he raised from \+sls (the)\+sls* dead]\add*.

And the coat was without seam, and woven all about. \sls (And so the soldiers when they had crucified him, took his clothes, and divided them into four parts, to each soldier one part, and there was also a cloak or a robe. \v 24 Therefore they said together, Cut we not it, but cast we lot\sls (s)\sls*, whose it is; that the scripture be fulfilled, saying, They parted my clothes to them, and on my cloth they cast lot\sls (s)\sls*. And the knights did these things. \sls (And so they said to each other, We shall not cut it, but rather we shall throw dice, to see whose it is; so that the Scripture be fulfilled, saying, They divided my clothes among themselves, and for my cloak or my robe they threw dice. \v 25 But beside the cross of Jesus stood his mother, and the sister of his mother, Mary Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

And they took a sponge full of eisell, putting it about with hyssop, and proffered it to his mouth.

\v 30 Therefore when Jesus had taken the vinegar, he said, It is ended. And when his head was bowed down, he gave up the ghost./And when Jesus had tasted \em this\em* eisell, he said, It is ended. And he bowed down the head, and sent out the spirit.

\v 5 Therefore Jesus saith to them, Children, whether ye have any supping thing? They answered to him, Nay.
