\s1 I, Peter, am writing this letter to Jewish believers who have been scattered throughout five provinces in Asia Minor. I wish that God will bless them.

\v 2 \w God|strong="G2316"\w* \w our|strong="G2316"\w* \w Father|strong="G3962"\w* previously chose \w you|strong="G5210"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w his|strong="G1519"\w* \w Spirit|strong="G4151"\w* \w has|strong="G2316"\w* \w set|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w apart|strong="G2596"\w* \w in|strong="G1722"\w* order \w that|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w would|strong="G2532"\w* \w obey|strong="G5218"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2424"\w* \w Christ|strong="G5547"\w*. \w He|strong="G2532"\w* \w did|strong="G2532"\w* \w that|strong="G2532"\w* \w in|strong="G1722"\w* order \w that|strong="G2532"\w* \add just like Moses\add* \w sprinkled|strong="G4473"\w* \add the Israelites with blood when God established the old covenant\add* [MET], \add Jesus would establish his new covenant with you\add* \w with|strong="G1722"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* blood \add that flowed from his body when he died\add*. \w May|strong="G2532"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w* act \w very|strong="G2532"\w* kindly \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w may|strong="G2532"\w* \w he|strong="G2532"\w* give \w you|strong="G5210"\w* much \add inner\add* \w peace|strong="G1515"\w*.   
\s1 God has done great things for you. Although you are now enduring trials to test your faith, you are rejoicing about your salvation. That salvation is something that the prophets who lived long ago did not fully understand.

\v 3 Praise \w God|strong="G2316"\w*, \w who|strong="G3588"\w* \w is|strong="G3588"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w Father|strong="G3962"\w* \w of|strong="G1537"\w* \w our|strong="G2316"\w* \w Lord|strong="G2962"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2424"\w* \w Christ|strong="G5547"\w*! \w Because|strong="G1223"\w* \w he|strong="G2532"\w* \w has|strong="G2316"\w* \w been|strong="G2532"\w* \w very|strong="G2532"\w* merciful \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \add us, he has given us new life\add* [MET]. \w Because|strong="G1223"\w* \w he|strong="G2532"\w* \w has|strong="G2316"\w* caused \w Jesus|strong="G2424"\w* \w Christ|strong="G5547"\w* \w to|strong="G1519"\w* become \w alive|strong="G2198"\w* \w again|strong="G2532"\w* \w after|strong="G2596"\w* \w he|strong="G2532"\w* \w died|strong="G3588"\w*, \w he|strong="G2532"\w* \w has|strong="G2316"\w* enabled \w us|strong="G1519"\w* \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w live|strong="G2198"\w* \w very|strong="G2532"\w* confidently; \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w is|strong="G3588"\w*, \w to|strong="G1519"\w* fully expect \w to|strong="G1519"\w* receive \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \add that God/he has promised to give us\add*.  
\v 4 \w He|strong="G2532"\w* \w has|strong="G2532"\w* enabled \w us|strong="G1519"\w* \w to|strong="G1519"\w* expect \w to|strong="G1519"\w* receive \w an|strong="G2532"\w* absolutely imperishable/indestructible [TRI] \w inheritance|strong="G2817"\w* \w that|strong="G2532"\w* \w has|strong="G2532"\w* \w been|strong="G2532"\w* {\w that|strong="G2532"\w* \add God\add* \w has|strong="G2532"\w*} \w preserved|strong="G5083"\w* \w in|strong="G1722"\w* \w heaven|strong="G3772"\w* \w for|strong="G1519"\w* \w us|strong="G1519"\w*.  
\v 5 \w God|strong="G2316"\w*, \w by|strong="G1223"\w* \w his|strong="G1223"\w* \w mighty|strong="G1411"\w* \w power|strong="G1411"\w*, \w is|strong="G3588"\w* \w guarding|strong="G5432"\w* \w you|strong="G1722"\w* \w as|strong="G1519"\w* \w you|strong="G1722"\w* trust \w in|strong="G1722"\w* Jesus. \add He is keeping you safe so\add* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w he|strong="G3588"\w* \w may|strong="G2316"\w*, \w at|strong="G1722"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w end|strong="G1519"\w* \w of|strong="G1223"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w time|strong="G2540"\w* \w in|strong="G1722"\w* \w which|strong="G3588"\w* \w we|strong="G1223"\w* \w now|strong="G1722"\w* live (\w OR|strong="G3588"\w*, \w when|strong="G1722"\w* Jesus returns), \w completely|strong="G1519"\w* deliver \w you|strong="G1722"\w* \add from Satan’s power\add*.  
\v 6 \w You|strong="G3739"\w* rejoice \w because|strong="G1722"\w* \w of|strong="G1722"\w* \w what|strong="G3739"\w* \w will|strong="G3739"\w* happen \w then|strong="G1722"\w*, \w but|strong="G1487"\w* \w now|strong="G1722"\w* \w you|strong="G3739"\w* \w are|strong="G3739"\w* \w grieving|strong="G3076"\w* \w for|strong="G1722"\w* \w a|strong="G1722"\w* \w short|strong="G3641"\w* \w time|strong="G3641"\w* \w while|strong="G1722"\w* \add God is allowing\add* \w you|strong="G3739"\w* \w to|strong="G1722"\w* \w be|strong="G1163"\w* tested {\add various things to\add* test \w you|strong="G3739"\w* [MET]}, \add as precious metals are tested\add* {\add someone tests precious metals\add*} \add to see if they are pure\add*. \add These trials that you are experiencing are necessary\add*  
\v 7 \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w prove|strong="G1381"\w* \w that|strong="G2443"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* really \w do|strong="G2532"\w* trust \w in|strong="G1722"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2424"\w*. \w His|strong="G1223"\w* \w proving|strong="G1381"\w* \w that|strong="G2443"\w* \w will|strong="G2532"\w* \w be|strong="G2532"\w* \w more|strong="G2532"\w* valuable \w than|strong="G2532"\w* \w gold|strong="G5553"\w*, \add which does not last forever even\add* \w though|strong="G2532"\w* \w it|strong="G2532"\w* \w is|strong="G3588"\w* purified \add by being put\add* {someone tries \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w make|strong="G1519"\w* \w it|strong="G2532"\w* pure \w by|strong="G1223"\w* \add putting it\add*} \add in a hot\add* \w fire|strong="G4442"\w*. \w As|strong="G1519"\w* \w a|strong="G2532"\w* \w result|strong="G1519"\w* \w of|strong="G1223"\w* \w your|strong="G1223"\w* \w passing|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w test|strong="G1381"\w* \add and proving that you really do trust in Jesus\add*, \w God|strong="G2532"\w* \w will|strong="G2532"\w* \w honor|strong="G5092"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w very|strong="G2532"\w* highly [TRI] \w when|strong="G1161"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2424"\w* \w Christ|strong="G5547"\w* \w comes|strong="G2532"\w* \w again|strong="G2532"\w*.  
\v 8 \w You|strong="G3739"\w* love \add Jesus\add*, \w although|strong="G1161"\w* \w you|strong="G3739"\w* \w have|strong="G2532"\w* \w not|strong="G3756"\w* \w seen|strong="G3708"\w* \w him|strong="G3739"\w*. \w Although|strong="G1161"\w* \w you|strong="G3739"\w* \w do|strong="G2532"\w* \w not|strong="G3756"\w* \w see|strong="G3708"\w* \w him|strong="G3739"\w* \w now|strong="G1161"\w*, \w you|strong="G3739"\w* \w rejoice|strong="G2532"\w* \w very|strong="G2532"\w* much [DOU]  
\v 9 because \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* experiencing \w the|strong="G3588"\w* result \w of|strong="G4102"\w* \w your|strong="G4102"\w* \w believing|strong="G4102"\w* \w in|strong="G4102"\w* \w him|strong="G3588"\w*; \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w is|strong="G3588"\w*, \add God\add* \w is|strong="G3588"\w* \w saving|strong="G4991"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* [SYN] \add from the guilt of your sins\add*.

\v 11 \w They|strong="G2532"\w* wanted \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w know|strong="G1722"\w* \w whom|strong="G5101"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w Spirit|strong="G4151"\w* \w of|strong="G4151"\w* \w Christ|strong="G5547"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* \w in|strong="G1722"\w* \w them|strong="G3588"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* referring \w to|strong="G1519"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w what|strong="G5101"\w* \w time|strong="G2540"\w* \w he|strong="G2532"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* talking \w about|strong="G1722"\w*, \w when|strong="G2532"\w* \w he|strong="G2532"\w* \w told|strong="G1213"\w* beforehand \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w Messiah|strong="G5547"\w* \w would|strong="G2532"\w* \w suffer|strong="G2532"\w* \add and die\add*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w glorious|strong="G1391"\w*/wonderful \w things|strong="G3778"\w* \w would|strong="G2532"\w* \w happen|strong="G1519"\w* \add to him and to us\add* \w afterwards|strong="G1722"\w*.  
\v 12 \w It|strong="G3754"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* revealed \w to|strong="G1519"\w* {\add God\add* told} \w them|strong="G3588"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w it|strong="G3754"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* \w not|strong="G3756"\w* \w for|strong="G3754"\w* \w their|strong="G1438"\w* \w own|strong="G1438"\w* \w sake|strong="G1223"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w he|strong="G1161"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* revealing \w these|strong="G3739"\w* \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w them|strong="G3588"\w*, \w but|strong="G1161"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w it|strong="G3754"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* \w for|strong="G3754"\w* \w your|strong="G1223"\w* \w sake|strong="G1223"\w*. \w It|strong="G3754"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* \w these|strong="G3739"\w* \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w were|strong="G3588"\w* \w proclaimed|strong="G2097"\w* \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w by|strong="G1223"\w* \w those|strong="G3588"\w* \w who|strong="G3739"\w* told \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* message \add about Christ {that those who told you the message about Christ proclaimed to you\add*}. \w They|strong="G1161"\w* \w proclaimed|strong="G2097"\w* \w these|strong="G3739"\w* \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w because|strong="G3754"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w Holy|strong="G4151"\w* \w Spirit|strong="G4151"\w* \w whom|strong="G3739"\w* \add God\add* \w sent|strong="G4151"\w* \w from|strong="G3588"\w* \w heaven|strong="G3772"\w* \add enabled them to do that\add*. \w And|strong="G1161"\w* \w even|strong="G1161"\w* angels \w would|strong="G1722"\w* like \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w know|strong="G1722"\w* \w more|strong="G3756"\w* \w about|strong="G1722"\w* \w these|strong="G3739"\w* \add truths about how God saves us\add*.   
\s1 You must live holy and reverent lives and love each other, because Christ has bought you and given you a new life.

\v 13 \w Therefore|strong="G1352"\w*, \add prepare your minds\add* [MET] \add as people\add* fasten \w their|strong="G1722"\w* belts \w around|strong="G1909"\w* \w their|strong="G1722"\w* waists \add to prepare to work\add*. \add What I mean is that\add* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w should|strong="G3588"\w* ◄discipline \w your|strong="G1722"\w* \w minds|strong="G1271"\w*/control \w what|strong="G3588"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* think \w about|strong="G1909"\w*►, \w and|strong="G2424"\w* \w by|strong="G1722"\w* doing \w that|strong="G3588"\w* conduct \w your|strong="G1722"\w* lives fully \w and|strong="G2424"\w* confidently expecting \w to|strong="G1909"\w* \w receive|strong="G1352"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w good|strong="G3588"\w* \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \add God will\add* kindly \add do for you\add* \w when|strong="G1722"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2424"\w* \w Christ|strong="G5547"\w* returns \add from heaven\add*.

\v 16 \w because|strong="G1360"\w* \w it|strong="G1510"\w* \w is|strong="G1510"\w* {\add someone/Moses\add* \w has|strong="G3748"\w*} \w written|strong="G1125"\w* \add in the Scriptures that God said\add*, “\w You|strong="G1510"\w* \w must|strong="G1510"\w* \w be|strong="G1510"\w* ◄holy/separate \w from|strong="G1510"\w* evil► \w because|strong="G1360"\w* \w I|strong="G1473"\w* \w am|strong="G1510"\w* ◄holy/separate \w from|strong="G1510"\w* evil►.”

\v 17 \w God|strong="G2532"\w* \w is|strong="G3588"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w one|strong="G1538"\w* \w who|strong="G3588"\w* ◄impartially/\w without|strong="G2532"\w* favoritism► \w judges|strong="G2919"\w* \w what|strong="G3588"\w* \w each|strong="G1538"\w* \w person|strong="G1538"\w* \w does|strong="G2919"\w*. \w Since|strong="G2596"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w call|strong="G1941"\w* \w him|strong="G3588"\w* ‘\w Father|strong="G3962"\w*’, \w live|strong="G2532"\w* ◄reverently/\w with|strong="G1722"\w* \w great|strong="G2532"\w* \w respect|strong="G5401"\w* \w for|strong="G1722"\w* \w him|strong="G3588"\w*► \w during|strong="G1722"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w time|strong="G5550"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* living \w here|strong="G1722"\w* \w on|strong="G1722"\w* \w earth|strong="G2532"\w*. \add While you are living here, you are\add* \w like|strong="G2596"\w* exiles/foreigners [MET] \add because you are away from heaven, which is your true home\add*.  
\v 18  \add Live reverently\add* \w because|strong="G3754"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w know|strong="G1492"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w it|strong="G3754"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* \w not|strong="G3756"\w* \w with|strong="G1537"\w* \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w will|strong="G3748"\w* \w not|strong="G3756"\w* last forever, \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \w like|strong="G5349"\w* \w gold|strong="G5553"\w* \w and|strong="G3588"\w* silver, \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \add God\add* bought \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w to|strong="G3756"\w* \w free|strong="G3084"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w from|strong="G1537"\w* \w your|strong="G3588"\w* \w useless|strong="G3152"\w* life-style \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* learned \w from|strong="G1537"\w* \w your|strong="G3588"\w* ancestors.  
\v 19 Instead, \add it was\add* \w with|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w precious|strong="G5093"\w* blood \w of|strong="G2532"\w* \w Christ|strong="G5547"\w* \add that flowed from his body when he died that God bought you. Christ’s death was a perfect sacrifice for us\add* [MET], \add like\add* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* lambs \w that|strong="G2532"\w* \add the Jewish priests sacrificed were\add* perfect, \w without|strong="G2532"\w* any blemishes/defects/flaws \w or|strong="G2532"\w* spots [DOU].  
\v 20 Christ \w was|strong="G3588"\w* chosen \add by God\add* {\add God\add* chose Christ} \w before|strong="G4253"\w* \w the|strong="G1161"\w* \w world|strong="G2889"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* created {\add he\add* created \w the|strong="G1161"\w* \w world|strong="G2889"\w*}. \w But|strong="G1161"\w* \w it|strong="G1161"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* \w not|strong="G1223"\w* until \w now|strong="G1161"\w*, \w when|strong="G1161"\w* \w the|strong="G1161"\w* \w time|strong="G5550"\w* \add in which we are living will soon\add* \w end|strong="G2078"\w*, \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w he|strong="G1161"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* \w revealed|strong="G5319"\w* \w for|strong="G1223"\w* \w your|strong="G1223"\w* \w sake|strong="G1223"\w*.  
\v 21 \w Because|strong="G1223"\w* \w of|strong="G1537"\w* \w what|strong="G3588"\w* Christ \w has|strong="G2316"\w* done, \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w are|strong="G1510"\w* trusting \w in|strong="G1519"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w*, \w who|strong="G3588"\w* \w caused|strong="G1325"\w* Christ \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w become|strong="G1510"\w* alive \w again|strong="G1453"\w* \w after|strong="G1223"\w* \w he|strong="G2532"\w* \w died|strong="G3588"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* greatly \w honored|strong="G1391"\w* \w him|strong="G3588"\w*. \w As|strong="G1519"\w* \w a|strong="G2532"\w* \w result|strong="G1537"\w*, \w God|strong="G2316"\w* \w is|strong="G1510"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w one|strong="G3588"\w* \w in|strong="G1519"\w* \w whom|strong="G3588"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w are|strong="G1510"\w* trusting \w and|strong="G2532"\w* confidently expecting \add that he will do great things for you\add*.

\v 10  \add What the prophet Hosea wrote is true of you\add*

\s1 Avoid obeying your self-directed natures. Conduct your lives in a good way among unbelievers.

\v 17  \add It may be that God wants you\add* \w to|strong="G2309"\w* \w suffer|strong="G3958"\w*. \w But|strong="G1487"\w* \w it|strong="G1063"\w* \w is|strong="G3588"\w* \w better|strong="G2909"\w* \w to|strong="G2309"\w* \w do|strong="G2554"\w* \w good|strong="G3588"\w* \w things|strong="G3588"\w*, \add even if you suffer for doing them\add*, \w than|strong="G2228"\w* \w to|strong="G2309"\w* \w do|strong="G2554"\w* \w evil|strong="G2554"\w* \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \w and|strong="G2316"\w* \w suffer|strong="G3958"\w* \add for doing that\add*.  
\v 18  \add I say that\add* \w because|strong="G3754"\w* \w Christ|strong="G5547"\w* \w died|strong="G2289"\w* once \w for|strong="G3754"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w sake|strong="G5228"\w* \w of|strong="G4012"\w* \w people|strong="G4561"\w* \w who|strong="G3588"\w* \w have|strong="G2532"\w* sinned. \w He|strong="G2532"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* \w a|strong="G2532"\w* \w righteous|strong="G1342"\w* \w person|strong="G1342"\w* \w who|strong="G3588"\w* \w died|strong="G2289"\w* \w for|strong="G3754"\w* unrighteous \w people|strong="G4561"\w*. \w He|strong="G2532"\w* \w died|strong="G2289"\w* \w in|strong="G2532"\w* \w order|strong="G2443"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* ◄\w he|strong="G2532"\w* \w might|strong="G2532"\w* \w bring|strong="G4317"\w* \w us|strong="G4012"\w* \w to|strong="G2443"\w*/\w we|strong="G3754"\w* \w might|strong="G2532"\w* begin \w an|strong="G2532"\w* intimate relationship \w with|strong="G2532"\w*► \w God|strong="G2316"\w*. \add During the time that he had\add* \w an|strong="G2532"\w* ordinary \w body|strong="G4561"\w*, \w he|strong="G2532"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* \w killed|strong="G2289"\w* {\w people|strong="G4561"\w* \w killed|strong="G2289"\w* \w him|strong="G3588"\w*}, \w but|strong="G1161"\w* \add God’s\add* \w Spirit|strong="G4151"\w* caused \w him|strong="G3588"\w* \w to|strong="G2443"\w* \w become|strong="G1161"\w* \w alive|strong="G2227"\w* \w again|strong="G2532"\w*.

Only \w a|strong="G1519"\w* \w few|strong="G3641"\w* \w people|strong="G5590"\w* \w were|strong="G1510"\w* \w saved|strong="G1295"\w* {\add God\add* \w saved|strong="G1295"\w* only \w a|strong="G1519"\w* \w few|strong="G3641"\w* \w people|strong="G5590"\w*} \add in that boat\add*. Specifically, \add God\add* \w brought|strong="G1295"\w* only \w eight|strong="G3638"\w* \w persons|strong="G5590"\w* \w safely|strong="G1295"\w* \w through|strong="G1223"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w waters|strong="G5204"\w* \add of the flood\add*, \add while all the others drowned in it\add*.  
\v 21 \w That|strong="G3739"\w* water, \add by means of which eight people were saved when God punished the other people\add* [MET], represents \add the water in which we are\add* baptized \add to show that God has\add* \w saved|strong="G4982"\w* \w us|strong="G1519"\w* \add from being punished\add*. \w The|strong="G2532"\w* water \w in|strong="G1519"\w* \w which|strong="G3739"\w* \w we|strong="G3739"\w* \w are|strong="G3739"\w* baptized \w does|strong="G2316"\w* \w not|strong="G3756"\w* remove \w dirt|strong="G4509"\w* \w from|strong="G2532"\w* \w our|strong="G2316"\w* bodies. Instead, \add it shows that\add* \w we|strong="G3739"\w* \w are|strong="G3739"\w* requesting \add God to assure us\add* \w that|strong="G3739"\w* \w he|strong="G2532"\w* \w has|strong="G2316"\w* removed \w our|strong="G2316"\w* guilt \add for having sinned\add*. \w And|strong="G2532"\w* \w because|strong="G1223"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2424"\w* \w Christ|strong="G5547"\w* became alive \w again|strong="G2532"\w* \w after|strong="G1223"\w* \w he|strong="G2532"\w* died, \add we know that God accepted his sacrifice for us and because of that he was able to remove our guilt\add*.  
\v 22 Christ \w has|strong="G2316"\w* \w gone|strong="G4198"\w* \w into|strong="G1519"\w* \w heaven|strong="G3772"\w* \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w is|strong="G1510"\w* ruling [MTY] \w in|strong="G1722"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w place|strong="G1722"\w* \w of|strong="G2316"\w* highest honor ◄\w next|strong="G1519"\w* \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w*/\w at|strong="G1722"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w*’s \w side|strong="G1188"\w*►, \w after|strong="G2532"\w* \add God\add* caused \w all|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w evil|strong="G2532"\w* \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w powerful|strong="G1411"\w* spirit beings [DOU] \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w be|strong="G1510"\w* \w made|strong="G2316"\w* \w subject|strong="G5293"\w* \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w him|strong="G3739"\w*.

\v 3  \add I say that to you\add* \w because|strong="G1063"\w* [SAR] \w you|strong="G1722"\w* \w have|strong="G2532"\w* \w already|strong="G5550"\w* spent \w too|strong="G2532"\w* much \w of|strong="G2532"\w* \w your|strong="G2532"\w* \w time|strong="G5550"\w* \add here on earth\add* \w doing|strong="G2716"\w* \w what|strong="G3588"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w people|strong="G1484"\w* \w who|strong="G3588"\w* \w do|strong="G2532"\w* \w not|strong="G2532"\w* \w know|strong="G1722"\w* \w God|strong="G2532"\w* like \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w do|strong="G2532"\w*. \w In|strong="G1722"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w past|strong="G3928"\w* \w you|strong="G1722"\w* \w committed|strong="G2716"\w* \w all|strong="G2532"\w* kinds \w of|strong="G2532"\w* sexually immoral acts [DOU], \w you|strong="G1722"\w* got drunk \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w then|strong="G2532"\w* participated \w in|strong="G1722"\w* ◄orgies/\w wild|strong="G2532"\w* \w parties|strong="G4224"\w*► \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w carousing|strong="G2970"\w*/revelry, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G1722"\w* \add worshipped\add* idols, \w which|strong="G3588"\w* \w is|strong="G3588"\w* \w very|strong="G2532"\w* displeasing \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w God|strong="G2532"\w*.  
\v 4  \add Because you used to do those things\add*, \add your friends\add* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* \w surprised|strong="G3579"\w* \w that|strong="G3739"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w do|strong="G3361"\w* \w not|strong="G3361"\w* join \w them|strong="G3588"\w* \w any|strong="G3361"\w* more \w when|strong="G1722"\w* \w they|strong="G3588"\w* participate \w in|strong="G1722"\w* \w that|strong="G3739"\w* kind \w of|strong="G1722"\w* wild behavior \add that\add* ◄\add is rushing to/will quickly\add*► \add destroy them like\add* [MET] \w a|strong="G1519"\w* flood. \w As|strong="G1519"\w* \w a|strong="G1519"\w* \w result|strong="G1519"\w*, \w they|strong="G3588"\w* say evil \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \w about|strong="G1722"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*.  
\v 5 \w But|strong="G2532"\w* \add God\add* \w is|strong="G3588"\w* \w ready|strong="G2093"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w judge|strong="G2919"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w people|strong="G2919"\w* \w who|strong="G3739"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* \w living|strong="G2198"\w* \add now\add* \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w people|strong="G2919"\w* \w who|strong="G3739"\w* \w have|strong="G2192"\w* \w died|strong="G3588"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w he|strong="G2532"\w* \w is|strong="G3588"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w one|strong="G3739"\w* \w who|strong="G3739"\w* \w will|strong="G2532"\w* decide \w whether|strong="G2532"\w* \w he|strong="G2532"\w* approves \w of|strong="G3056"\w* \w what|strong="G3739"\w* each \w of|strong="G3056"\w* \w them|strong="G3588"\w* \w has|strong="G2192"\w* done.  
\v 6 \w That|strong="G2443"\w* \w is|strong="G2316"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* reason \w why|strong="G1063"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* message \add about Christ\add* \w was|strong="G2532"\w* \w preached|strong="G2097"\w* {\add people\add* \w preached|strong="G2097"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* message \add about Christ\add*} \w to|strong="G1519"\w* believers \w who|strong="G2316"\w* \w have|strong="G2532"\w* \w now|strong="G1161"\w* died. \add That message was preached to them\add* \w in|strong="G1519"\w* \w order|strong="G2443"\w* \w that|strong="G2443"\w* \w even|strong="G2532"\w* \w though|strong="G2532"\w* \add sinful\add* \w people|strong="G2919"\w* \w might|strong="G2532"\w* \w judge|strong="G2919"\w* \w them|strong="G3778"\w* \add and say that they are guilty\add*, \w God|strong="G2316"\w*’s \w Spirit|strong="G4151"\w* \w would|strong="G2532"\w* \add enable them to\add* \w live|strong="G2198"\w* \add eternally\add*.   
\s1 Keep thinking sensibly. Love each other earnestly. Provide hospitality to others. Use your spiritual gifts well. Be kind to others with all the energy that you have.

\v 8 Most important \w of|strong="G3956"\w* \w all|strong="G3956"\w*, love \w each|strong="G1438"\w* \w other|strong="G1438"\w* earnestly/wholeheartedly, \w because|strong="G3754"\w* \w if|strong="G3748"\w* \w we|strong="G3754"\w* love \w others|strong="G3588"\w* [PRS], \w we|strong="G3754"\w* \w will|strong="G3956"\w* \w just|strong="G3588"\w* ignore \w many|strong="G2192"\w* \w of|strong="G3956"\w* \w the|strong="G1519"\w* sinful \w things|strong="G3956"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \add they do to us\add*.  
\v 9 Provide food \w and|strong="G1519"\w* \w a|strong="G1519"\w* place \w to|strong="G1519"\w* sleep \w for|strong="G1519"\w* those \add who come to your community\add*, \add and do it\add* without \w complaining|strong="G1112"\w*.  
\v 10 Believers \w should|strong="G2316"\w* \w all|strong="G5613"\w* use \w the|strong="G1519"\w* \w spiritual|strong="G5486"\w* \w gifts|strong="G5486"\w* \w that|strong="G1519"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w* \w has|strong="G2316"\w* \w given|strong="G1247"\w* \w them|strong="G1438"\w* \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w serve|strong="G1247"\w* others. \w They|strong="G5613"\w* \w should|strong="G2316"\w* manage/use \w well|strong="G2570"\w* \w the|strong="G1519"\w* \w various|strong="G4164"\w* \w gifts|strong="G5486"\w* \w that|strong="G1519"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w* \w has|strong="G2316"\w* kindly \w given|strong="G1247"\w* \w them|strong="G1438"\w*.

\v 16 \w But|strong="G1161"\w* \w if|strong="G1487"\w* \w you|strong="G1487"\w* suffer \w because|strong="G1722"\w* \w of|strong="G2316"\w* \w being|strong="G1722"\w* \w a|strong="G5613"\w* \w Christian|strong="G5546"\w*, \w do|strong="G3361"\w* \w not|strong="G3361"\w* \w be|strong="G3361"\w* ashamed \w about|strong="G5613"\w* \w it|strong="G1161"\w*. \w Instead|strong="G1161"\w*, \w praise|strong="G1392"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w you|strong="G1487"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* \w suffering|strong="G1722"\w* \w because|strong="G1722"\w* \w of|strong="G2316"\w* belonging \w to|strong="G1722"\w* \w Christ|strong="G5613"\w* [MTY].  
\v 17 \w I|strong="G1473"\w* \w say|strong="G5101"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w*, \w because|strong="G3754"\w* \w it|strong="G3754"\w* \w is|strong="G3588"\w* \w now|strong="G1161"\w* \w time|strong="G2540"\w* \w for|strong="G3754"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w* \w to|strong="G1161"\w* begin judging \w people|strong="G3588"\w*, \w and|strong="G1161"\w* \w first|strong="G4413"\w* \w he|strong="G1161"\w* \w will|strong="G2316"\w* judge \w those|strong="G3588"\w* \w who|strong="G5101"\w* belong [MTY] \w to|strong="G1161"\w* \w him|strong="G3588"\w*. \w Since|strong="G3754"\w* \w he|strong="G1161"\w* \w will|strong="G2316"\w* judge \w us|strong="G2249"\w* believers \w first|strong="G4413"\w*, think \w about|strong="G3588"\w* \w the|strong="G1161"\w* terrible \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w will|strong="G2316"\w* happen \w to|strong="G1161"\w* [RHQ] \w those|strong="G3588"\w* \w who|strong="G5101"\w* \w do|strong="G5101"\w* \w not|strong="G1473"\w* obey \w the|strong="G1161"\w* \w good|strong="G3588"\w* message \w that|strong="G3754"\w* comes \w from|strong="G3588"\w* \w him|strong="G3588"\w*!  
\v 18  \add That will be as it\add* \w is|strong="G3588"\w* \w written|strong="G3588"\w* \w in|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* Scriptures,  
\q1 \add Many\add* \w righteous|strong="G1342"\w* \w people|strong="G3588"\w* \add will have to suffer\add* many \add difficult trials before going to heaven\add*.  
\q1 \w So|strong="G2532"\w* ungodly \w and|strong="G2532"\w* sinful \w people|strong="G3588"\w* \w will|strong="G2532"\w* surely \w have|strong="G2532"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w suffer|strong="G2532"\w* \add much severe punishment from God\add*!

\v 19 \w Therefore|strong="G5620"\w*, \w those|strong="G3588"\w* \w who|strong="G3588"\w* \w suffer|strong="G3958"\w* \w because|strong="G1722"\w* \w of|strong="G2316"\w* its \w being|strong="G2532"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w*’s \w will|strong="G2307"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w they|strong="G2532"\w* \w suffer|strong="G3958"\w* \add because of being Christians\add* \w should|strong="G2316"\w* \w commit|strong="G3908"\w* \w themselves|strong="G1722"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w*, \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w one|strong="G3588"\w* \w who|strong="G3588"\w* created \w them|strong="G3588"\w* \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w one|strong="G3588"\w* \w who|strong="G3588"\w* always \w does|strong="G2316"\w* \w what|strong="G3588"\w* \w he|strong="G2532"\w* promises \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w do|strong="G2532"\w*. \w And|strong="G2532"\w* \w they|strong="G2532"\w* \w should|strong="G2316"\w* \w continue|strong="G2532"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w do|strong="G2532"\w* \w what|strong="G3588"\w* \w is|strong="G3588"\w* right.

\s1 You elders must care for your congregations with enthusiasm, not being greedy for money or acting like bosses. Instead, be examples to them.

\v 3 \w Do|strong="G1096"\w* \w not|strong="G3366"\w* act \w like|strong="G5613"\w* domineering \add bosses over\add* \w the|strong="G3588"\w* \w people|strong="G3588"\w* [MET] \w whom|strong="G3588"\w* \w God|strong="G3588"\w* \w has|strong="G1096"\w* assigned/entrusted \w to|strong="G1096"\w* \w you|strong="G5613"\w*, \w but|strong="G3588"\w* instead \w be|strong="G1096"\w* \w examples|strong="G5179"\w* \w to|strong="G1096"\w* \w them|strong="G3588"\w* \w by|strong="G1096"\w* \w the|strong="G3588"\w* \w way|strong="G5613"\w* \w in|strong="G1096"\w* \w which|strong="G3588"\w* \w you|strong="G5613"\w* conduct \w your|strong="G3588"\w* lives.  
\v 4  \add If you do that\add*, \w when|strong="G2532"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2532"\w*, \w who|strong="G3588"\w* \w is|strong="G3588"\w* \add like\add* \w our|strong="G2532"\w* \w chief|strong="G2532"\w* shepherd [MET], \w appears|strong="G5319"\w*, \w he|strong="G2532"\w* \w will|strong="G2532"\w* give each \w of|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G2532"\w* \w a|strong="G2532"\w* \add glorious/wonderful reward\add* [MET]. \add That reward will be like\add* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* wreaths \add that are given to victorious athletes\add*, \w but|strong="G2532"\w* \w your|strong="G2532"\w* reward \w will|strong="G2532"\w* never wither \add like wreaths do\add*.

\v 5  \add Now I will say this to\add* \w you|strong="G3754"\w* \w young|strong="G3501"\w* \w men|strong="G3956"\w* \add and women\add*: \add Just like married men and women are\add* ◄\add to be subject/to submit themselves\add*► \add to their spouses\add*, \w you|strong="G3754"\w* \w must|strong="G3588"\w* ◄\w be|strong="G3956"\w* \w subject|strong="G5293"\w*/\w submit|strong="G5293"\w* \w yourselves|strong="G5293"\w*► ◄\w to|strong="G1325"\w* \w the|strong="G3956"\w* \w older|strong="G4245"\w* \w men|strong="G3956"\w*/\w to|strong="G1325"\w* \w the|strong="G3956"\w* \w leaders|strong="G3754"\w*► \add of the congregation\add*. \w And|strong="G1161"\w* \w all|strong="G3956"\w* \w of|strong="G2316"\w* \w you|strong="G3754"\w* \add believers\add* \w should|strong="G2316"\w* act [MET] humbly \w toward|strong="G5012"\w* each \w other|strong="G1161"\w*, \w because|strong="G3754"\w* \w this|strong="G3588"\w* proverb \w is|strong="G3588"\w* \w true|strong="G3588"\w*:

\s1 Resist the devil by always being alert and trusting in Christ’s message, remembering that believers everywhere are also suffering as you are.
