\ip Paul wrote this letter about 2,000 years ago, about 20 years after Jesus went back to heaven, and it is now in the Holy Bible.  
\ip God sent Paul to lots of countries and lots of towns to tell people about Jesus. One of those towns was Thessalonica (see Acts 17:1-9). It was a big town in the country called Greece, where the Greek people come from, and it is still there today. \ip When Paul went to Thessalonica some people believed in Jesus and became Christians, but others didn’t like what he was saying, and they made trouble for him. So he could not stay there very long. Soon after that he sent his friend Timothy back to Thessalonica to find out how those new Christians were going, and to help them be strong for Jesus. After Timothy came back and told him how they were going, Paul wrote them this letter. Paul’s 2 friends, Silas and Timothy, they helped him write this letter. This was the 1st letter that Paul wrote to them. He wrote them another letter about 6 months later.  
\ip In this letter Paul wrote about the time when Jesus will come back from heaven, and he said other important things too. So today we have to take notice of what Paul wrote to the Christians at Thessalonica.

Silas \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w Timothy|strong="G5095"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* \w here|strong="G1722"\w* \w with|strong="G1722"\w* me, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w they|strong="G2532"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* \w helping|strong="G2532"\w* me write \w this|strong="G3588"\w* letter.  
\p \w We|strong="G2532"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* sending \w this|strong="G3588"\w* letter \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w Christians|strong="G2424"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* \w in|strong="G1722"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w*’\w s|strong="G2962"\w* \w church|strong="G1577"\w*, \w in|strong="G1722"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w town|strong="G2532"\w* \w called|strong="G3972"\w* \w Thessalonica|strong="G2331"\w*. \w You|strong="G5210"\w* belong \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w* \w our|strong="G2316"\w* \w father|strong="G3962"\w* \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2424"\w* \w Christ|strong="G5547"\w* \w our|strong="G2316"\w* leader.

\v 2 \w We|strong="G2249"\w* pray \w for|strong="G4012"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* mob \w all|strong="G3956"\w* \w the|strong="G3956"\w* \w time|strong="G1909"\w*, \w and|strong="G2316"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w always|strong="G3842"\w* \w thank|strong="G2168"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w* \w for|strong="G4012"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*.  
\v 3 Whenever \w we|strong="G2249"\w* talk \w about|strong="G3588"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w*, \w our|strong="G2316"\w* \w father|strong="G3962"\w*, \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w remember|strong="G3421"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w good|strong="G3588"\w* \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w do|strong="G2532"\w*. \w You|strong="G5210"\w* properly \w believe|strong="G4102"\w* \w in|strong="G2532"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2424"\w* \w Christ|strong="G5547"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* love \w him|strong="G3588"\w* \w very|strong="G2532"\w* much, \w so|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w do|strong="G2532"\w* \w those|strong="G3588"\w* \w good|strong="G3588"\w* \w things|strong="G3588"\w*. \w And|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* love \w other|strong="G3588"\w* \w people|strong="G3588"\w* \w too|strong="G2532"\w*, \w so|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w work|strong="G2041"\w* hard \w to|strong="G2532"\w* help \w them|strong="G3588"\w*. \w You|strong="G5210"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* really sure \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w our|strong="G2316"\w* leader, \w Jesus|strong="G2424"\w* \w Christ|strong="G5547"\w*, \w will|strong="G2316"\w* \w come|strong="G2532"\w* back \w for|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*, \w so|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* keep \w on|strong="G2962"\w* following \w him|strong="G3588"\w*, \w no|strong="G2532"\w* matter \w what|strong="G3588"\w* \w other|strong="G3588"\w* \w people|strong="G3588"\w* \w do|strong="G2532"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*.

\v 4 Christian friends, \w we|strong="G1492"\w* \w know|strong="G1492"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w* loves \w you|strong="G5210"\w*, \w and|strong="G2316"\w* \w he|strong="G3588"\w* picked \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w to|strong="G2316"\w* \w be|strong="G2316"\w* \w his|strong="G5259"\w* own \w people|strong="G1492"\w*.  
\v 5 \w Remember|strong="G1492"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w time|strong="G1722"\w* \w when|strong="G2532"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* told \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w good|strong="G1223"\w* \w news|strong="G3056"\w* \w about|strong="G1722"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2532"\w*. \w We|strong="G2249"\w* told \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w message|strong="G3056"\w* \w with|strong="G1722"\w* \w our|strong="G2532"\w* \w words|strong="G3056"\w*, \w but|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w Holy|strong="G4151"\w* \w Spirit|strong="G4151"\w* \w made|strong="G1096"\w* \w us|strong="G1519"\w* \w sure|strong="G1492"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w were|strong="G3588"\w* telling \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w true|strong="G3588"\w* \w story|strong="G3056"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w he|strong="G2532"\w* \w gave|strong="G2532"\w* \w us|strong="G1519"\w* \w his|strong="G1223"\w* \w power|strong="G1411"\w* \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w show|strong="G1096"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w God|strong="G2532"\w* \w was|strong="G1096"\w* \w with|strong="G1722"\w* \w us|strong="G1519"\w*. \w And|strong="G2532"\w* \w remember|strong="G1492"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* sort \w of|strong="G3056"\w* \w people|strong="G1492"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w were|strong="G3588"\w* \w at|strong="G1722"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w time|strong="G1722"\w* \w when|strong="G2532"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w were|strong="G3588"\w* \w with|strong="G1722"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w there|strong="G2532"\w*. \w We|strong="G2249"\w* showed \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w good|strong="G1223"\w* \w way|strong="G1722"\w* \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w live|strong="G2532"\w*.  
\v 6 \w So|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* changed \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w way|strong="G1722"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w live|strong="G2532"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w lived|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w same|strong="G2532"\w* \w way|strong="G1722"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w lived|strong="G2532"\w*, like \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w way|strong="G1722"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2532"\w*, \w our|strong="G2532"\w* leader, \w lived|strong="G2532"\w*. \w You|strong="G5210"\w* \w believed|strong="G3588"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w message|strong="G3056"\w* \w about|strong="G1722"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2532"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w Holy|strong="G4151"\w* \w Spirit|strong="G4151"\w* \w made|strong="G1096"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* really happy. \w Other|strong="G4183"\w* \w people|strong="G4183"\w* \w gave|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w a|strong="G1096"\w* lot \w of|strong="G3056"\w* \w trouble|strong="G2347"\w*, \w but|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w were|strong="G3588"\w* happy anyway.\x * \xo 1:6 \xt Acts 17:5-9\x*  
\v 7 \w You|strong="G5210"\w* showed \w all|strong="G3956"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w other|strong="G1722"\w* Christians \w there|strong="G2532"\w* \w in|strong="G1722"\w* \w Macedonia|strong="G3109"\w* country \w the|strong="G1722"\w* right \w way|strong="G1722"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w live|strong="G2532"\w*. \w And|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w did|strong="G2532"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w too|strong="G2532"\w* \w for|strong="G1722"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* Christians \w in|strong="G1722"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* country \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* south \w of|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*, \w called|strong="G3588"\w* Akaya.

\v 8-9 And now people in lots of places have heard about Jesus. You see, other people told them about you. They told them that you listened to us when we came to your town, and that you turned away from the gods that are not real, and that now you only work for the true God, the one that is properly alive. And it’s not only the people in Macedonia and Akaya that have heard that story. Everywhere we go we find people that tell us about you, so we know that story has gone around to lots of places. We don’t have to tell anyone about you. They have already heard the story.  
\v 10 \w And|strong="G2532"\w* \w they|strong="G2532"\w* \w say|strong="G2532"\w* \w that|strong="G3739"\w* \w you|strong="G3739"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* waiting \w for|strong="G2532"\w* \w God|strong="G2532"\w*’s \w son|strong="G5207"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w come|strong="G2064"\w* back \w from|strong="G1537"\w* \w heaven|strong="G3772"\w*. \w His|strong="G2532"\w* \w son|strong="G5207"\w* \w is|strong="G3588"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2424"\w*. \w Jesus|strong="G2424"\w* \w died|strong="G3588"\w*, \w but|strong="G2532"\w* \w God|strong="G2532"\w* made \w him|strong="G3588"\w* alive \w again|strong="G1453"\w*. \w And|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G3739"\w* \w know|strong="G1537"\w*, \w God|strong="G2532"\w* \w will|strong="G2532"\w* judge everybody \w one|strong="G3739"\w* \w day|strong="G3588"\w*. Everybody \w has|strong="G3739"\w* done bad \w things|strong="G3588"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w that|strong="G3739"\w* makes \w God|strong="G2532"\w* angry. \w But|strong="G2532"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2424"\w* \w will|strong="G2532"\w* save \w his|strong="G2532"\w* \w people|strong="G3588"\w*, \w so|strong="G2532"\w* \w God|strong="G2532"\w* \w will|strong="G2532"\w* \w not|strong="G3739"\w* \w be|strong="G2532"\w* angry \w with|strong="G1537"\w* \w you|strong="G3739"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w he|strong="G2532"\w* \w will|strong="G2532"\w* \w not|strong="G3739"\w* \w be|strong="G2532"\w* angry \w with|strong="G1537"\w* \w us|strong="G2249"\w*.

\s1 Paul asked the Christians at Thessalonica to remember the time he visited them

\v 1 Christian friends, \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w know|strong="G1492"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w it|strong="G3754"\w* \w was|strong="G1096"\w* \w good|strong="G3588"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w went|strong="G3588"\w* \w to|strong="G4314"\w* \w your|strong="G3588"\w* town \w and|strong="G3588"\w* \w told|strong="G4314"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w God|strong="G4314"\w*’s message. \w It|strong="G3754"\w* wasn’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* \w a|strong="G1096"\w* waste \w of|strong="G3588"\w* \w our|strong="G1096"\w* time, \w because|strong="G3754"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w believed|strong="G3588"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* message.  
\v 2 \w And|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w know|strong="G1492"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w before|strong="G4314"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w came|strong="G2532"\w* \w to|strong="G4314"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*, \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w told|strong="G2980"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w*’s message \w to|strong="G4314"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w people|strong="G1492"\w* \w in|strong="G1722"\w* \w Philippi|strong="G5375"\w*. \w Some|strong="G3588"\w* \w of|strong="G2316"\w* \w those|strong="G3588"\w* \w Philippi|strong="G5375"\w* \w people|strong="G1492"\w* got really cheeky \w to|strong="G4314"\w* \w us|strong="G2249"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w they|strong="G2532"\w* beat \w us|strong="G2249"\w* \w up|strong="G1722"\w*. \w After|strong="G2532"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w*, \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w came|strong="G2532"\w* \w to|strong="G4314"\w* \w your|strong="G2532"\w* \w town|strong="G2532"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w* \w made|strong="G2316"\w* \w us|strong="G2249"\w* brave, \w so|strong="G2532"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w told|strong="G2980"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w*’s message \w to|strong="G4314"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w too|strong="G2532"\w*. \w We|strong="G2249"\w* didn’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* \w get|strong="G2532"\w* frightened \w of|strong="G2316"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* cheeky \w people|strong="G1492"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* tried \w to|strong="G4314"\w* stop \w us|strong="G2249"\w*.\x * \xo 2:2 \xt Acts 16:19-24; 17:1-9\x*  
\v 3 \w You|strong="G1722"\w* see, \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w only|strong="G3756"\w* told \w you|strong="G1722"\w* \w true|strong="G3588"\w* \w things|strong="G3588"\w*. \w We|strong="G2249"\w* told \w you|strong="G1722"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w good|strong="G3588"\w* news \w so|strong="G1063"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w you|strong="G1722"\w* \w can|strong="G1063"\w* believe \w God|strong="G3588"\w*’s message. \w We|strong="G2249"\w* \w were|strong="G3588"\w* \w not|strong="G3756"\w* trying \w to|strong="G1722"\w* trick \w you|strong="G1722"\w*. \w We|strong="G2249"\w* \w were|strong="G3588"\w* \w not|strong="G3756"\w* trying \w to|strong="G1722"\w* get \w you|strong="G1722"\w* \w to|strong="G1722"\w* believe \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* \w not|strong="G3756"\w* \w true|strong="G3588"\w*.  
\v 4 \w No|strong="G3756"\w* \w way|strong="G3779"\w*. \w You|strong="G3779"\w* \w see|strong="G1381"\w*, \w it|strong="G2531"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w sent|strong="G2316"\w* \w us|strong="G2249"\w*. \w He|strong="G3588"\w* \w knew|strong="G3756"\w* \w us|strong="G2249"\w*, \w and|strong="G2316"\w* \w he|strong="G3588"\w* trusted \w us|strong="G2249"\w* \w to|strong="G3756"\w* \w tell|strong="G2980"\w* \w people|strong="G3588"\w* \w his|strong="G5613"\w* message. \w So|strong="G3779"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w only|strong="G3756"\w* \w say|strong="G2980"\w* \w what|strong="G3588"\w* \w he|strong="G3588"\w* wants \w us|strong="G2249"\w* \w to|strong="G3756"\w* \w say|strong="G2980"\w*. \w We|strong="G2249"\w* don’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* \w try|strong="G1381"\w* \w to|strong="G3756"\w* \w make|strong="G3756"\w* \w people|strong="G3588"\w* happy. \w We|strong="G2249"\w* \w only|strong="G3756"\w* \w try|strong="G1381"\w* \w to|strong="G3756"\w* \w make|strong="G3756"\w* \w God|strong="G2316"\w* happy.  
\v 5 \w And|strong="G2316"\w* \w when|strong="G1492"\w* \w we|strong="G1063"\w* talked \w to|strong="G1722"\w* \w you|strong="G1722"\w*, \w we|strong="G1063"\w* didn’t \w say|strong="G3056"\w* nice \w things|strong="G3056"\w* \w about|strong="G1722"\w* \w you|strong="G1722"\w*, \w so|strong="G2531"\w* \w that|strong="G1096"\w* \w you|strong="G1722"\w* \w will|strong="G2316"\w* \w like|strong="G2531"\w* \w us|strong="G1722"\w*. \w We|strong="G1063"\w* didn’t make \w a|strong="G1096"\w* secret plan \w to|strong="G1722"\w* \w get|strong="G1096"\w* \w you|strong="G1722"\w* \w to|strong="G1722"\w* \w give|strong="G1096"\w* \w us|strong="G1722"\w* \w things|strong="G3056"\w*. \w God|strong="G2316"\w* \w knows|strong="G1492"\w* \w that|strong="G1096"\w*.  
\v 6 \w And|strong="G1391"\w* \w we|strong="G5613"\w* didn’t try \w to|strong="G1410"\w* get anyone \w to|strong="G1410"\w* \w say|strong="G1537"\w* \w good|strong="G1510"\w* \w things|strong="G3777"\w* \w about|strong="G5613"\w* \w us|strong="G1537"\w*. \w We|strong="G5613"\w* didn’t \w want|strong="G2212"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w or|strong="G3777"\w* anyone else \w to|strong="G1410"\w* \w do|strong="G1410"\w* \w that|strong="G5613"\w*.

\v 7 \w God|strong="G3588"\w* \w made|strong="G1096"\w* \w us|strong="G1722"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G1510"\w*’s special workers, \w and|strong="G3588"\w* \w he|strong="G3588"\w* sent \w us|strong="G1722"\w* \w to|strong="G1410"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*. \w But|strong="G1437"\w* \w we|strong="G1437"\w* didn’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* say, “\w We|strong="G1437"\w* \w are|strong="G1510"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G1510"\w*’s special workers, \w so|strong="G5613"\w* \w we|strong="G1437"\w* \w are|strong="G1510"\w* \w your|strong="G1437"\w* bosses, \w and|strong="G3588"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w have|strong="G1510"\w* \w to|strong="G1410"\w* \w do|strong="G1096"\w* \w what|strong="G3588"\w* \w we|strong="G1437"\w* say.” \w No|strong="G1410"\w*, \w we|strong="G1437"\w* didn’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* talk \w like|strong="G5613"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w*. \w We|strong="G1437"\w* \w were|strong="G1510"\w* \w like|strong="G5613"\w* little kids \w with|strong="G1722"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*. \w We|strong="G1437"\w* talked easy \w to|strong="G1410"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*. \w We|strong="G1437"\w* \w were|strong="G1510"\w* \w good|strong="G3588"\w* \w to|strong="G1410"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*, \w like|strong="G5613"\w* \w a|strong="G1096"\w* mother \w taking|strong="G1096"\w* care \w of|strong="G1722"\w* \w her|strong="G1437"\w* kids.  
\v 8 \w We|strong="G2249"\w* loved \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w so|strong="G3779"\w* much \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* told \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w good|strong="G2106"\w* \w news|strong="G2098"\w* \w about|strong="G3588"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2532"\w*. \w And|strong="G2532"\w* \w more|strong="G2532"\w* \w than|strong="G2532"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w*, \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w were|strong="G3588"\w* ready \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w do|strong="G1096"\w* anything \w to|strong="G2532"\w* help \w you|strong="G5210"\w*.

\v 17 \w Look|strong="G3708"\w*, Christian friends, \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w never|strong="G3756"\w* wanted \w to|strong="G4314"\w* leave \w you|strong="G5210"\w* mob, \w but|strong="G1161"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w had|strong="G3588"\w* \w to|strong="G4314"\w*. \w But|strong="G1161"\w* \w it|strong="G1161"\w* \w was|strong="G3588"\w* \w only|strong="G3756"\w* \w for|strong="G4314"\w* \w a|strong="G1722"\w* little \w while|strong="G1722"\w*, \w and|strong="G1161"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w kept|strong="G3756"\w* \w on|strong="G1722"\w* thinking \w about|strong="G1722"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*, \w and|strong="G1161"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* really wanted \w to|strong="G4314"\w* go \w back|strong="G4314"\w* \w to|strong="G4314"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*.  
\v 18 \w I|strong="G1473"\w*, \w Paul|strong="G3972"\w*, tried \w to|strong="G4314"\w* \w go|strong="G2064"\w* \w back|strong="G4314"\w* lots \w of|strong="G2532"\w* times, \w but|strong="G2532"\w* \w Satan|strong="G4567"\w*, \w the|strong="G2532"\w* boss \w over|strong="G2064"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* bad spirits, \w he|strong="G2532"\w* stopped \w me|strong="G1473"\w* \w every|strong="G2532"\w* time.  
\v 19-20 Listen. One day our leader, Jesus, will come back, and he will ask us about the things we did. Then we will tell him about how we got you mob to trust him. And you will be there with us on that day, so we will be really happy. We are like athletes that run in a race and win the prize, because after Jesus comes back, he will tell us that we did a good job with you, and that will be like a prize for us.

\s1 Paul sent Timothy to the Christians at Thessalonica

\v 1-2 But back at the time just after we left you, we worried about you for a while. We didn’t know if you kept on trusting Jesus or not. We tried to go back to find out about you, but we couldn’t do it. And we couldn’t wait to get some news about you. So we reckoned, “We’ll send Timothy by himself, and we’ll stay here in this city called Athens and wait for him to come back.” Timothy is like our brother. He works with us for God, telling people the good news about Jesus Christ.  
\p We sent Timothy to you so that he could help you to be strong and to trust Jesus better.  
\v 3 \w We|strong="G3754"\w* \w knew|strong="G1492"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w people|strong="G1492"\w* \w would|strong="G1722"\w* give \w you|strong="G3754"\w* \w trouble|strong="G2347"\w*, \w and|strong="G3588"\w* \w we|strong="G3754"\w* didn’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* want \w any|strong="G3367"\w* \w of|strong="G1722"\w* \w you|strong="G3754"\w* \w to|strong="G1519"\w* stop \w following|strong="G1722"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G1492"\w*. \w You|strong="G3754"\w* \w yourselves|strong="G1722"\w* \w know|strong="G1492"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w you|strong="G3754"\w* get \w trouble|strong="G2347"\w* \w for|strong="G1063"\w* \w following|strong="G1722"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G1492"\w*.  
\v 4 \w This|strong="G3748"\w* \w is|strong="G1510"\w* \w what|strong="G1063"\w* \w we|strong="G3754"\w* \w told|strong="G4302"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w when|strong="G3753"\w* \w we|strong="G3754"\w* \w were|strong="G1510"\w* still \w with|strong="G4314"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*, \w we|strong="G3754"\w* \w said|strong="G2532"\w*, “\w Some|strong="G3748"\w* \w people|strong="G1492"\w* \w will|strong="G3195"\w* \w give|strong="G1096"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w trouble|strong="G2346"\w*.” \w And|strong="G2532"\w* \w soon|strong="G1096"\w* \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w happened|strong="G1096"\w*, \w just|strong="G2531"\w* \w like|strong="G2531"\w* \w we|strong="G3754"\w* \w said|strong="G2532"\w*.

\v 5 \w And|strong="G2532"\w* \w I|strong="G1473"\w* really worried \w about|strong="G1519"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*. \w I|strong="G1473"\w* thought, “\w You|strong="G5210"\w* Christians \w in|strong="G1519"\w* Thessalonica \w are|strong="G3588"\w* \w very|strong="G2532"\w* new Christians. Maybe \w the|strong="G2532"\w* boss \w over|strong="G1519"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* bad spirits \w gave|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w too|strong="G2532"\w* much \w trouble|strong="G2873"\w*. Maybe \w he|strong="G2532"\w* tricked \w you|strong="G5210"\w*, \w so|strong="G2532"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* don’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* trust \w Jesus|strong="G2532"\w* \w any|strong="G3361"\w* \w more|strong="G3371"\w*. Maybe \w we|strong="G2249"\w* worked \w for|strong="G1519"\w* \w nothing|strong="G3361"\w* \w there|strong="G2532"\w* \w in|strong="G1519"\w* Thessalonica.” \w That|strong="G3588"\w*’s \w what|strong="G3588"\w* \w I|strong="G1473"\w* \w was|strong="G1096"\w* thinking, \w but|strong="G2532"\w* \w I|strong="G1473"\w* didn’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* really \w know|strong="G1097"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w true|strong="G3588"\w* story. \w And|strong="G2532"\w* \w when|strong="G2532"\w* \w I|strong="G1473"\w* couldn’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* wait \w any|strong="G3361"\w* \w longer|strong="G3371"\w*, \w I|strong="G1473"\w* \w had|strong="G2532"\w* \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w send|strong="G3992"\w* Timothy \w to|strong="G1519"\w* \w find|strong="G1097"\w* \w out|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w true|strong="G3588"\w* story \w about|strong="G1519"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*.

\v 7 \w We|strong="G2249"\w* heard \w that|strong="G3588"\w* news \w about|strong="G1909"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w*, \w our|strong="G2532"\w* Christian friends, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w were|strong="G3588"\w* \w very|strong="G2532"\w* happy. \w After|strong="G1223"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* heard \w it|strong="G2532"\w*, \w we|strong="G2249"\w* got braver \w and|strong="G2532"\w* stronger \w for|strong="G1223"\w* \w God|strong="G2532"\w*. \w It|strong="G2532"\w* doesn’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* matter \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w us|strong="G2249"\w* \w if|strong="G2532"\w* \w people|strong="G3956"\w* \w give|strong="G1473"\w* \w us|strong="G2249"\w* \w trouble|strong="G2347"\w* \w and|strong="G2532"\w* hit \w us|strong="G2249"\w*. \w You|strong="G5210"\w* still trust \w Jesus|strong="G2532"\w*, \w so|strong="G2532"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* happy.  
\v 8 \w We|strong="G1437"\w* heard \w that|strong="G3754"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* strongly believe \w in|strong="G1722"\w* \w our|strong="G2962"\w* leader, \w Jesus|strong="G2962"\w*, \w and|strong="G2962"\w* \w now|strong="G3568"\w* \w we|strong="G1437"\w* feel properly \w alive|strong="G2198"\w* again.

\v 4 \w But|strong="G1161"\w*, Christian friends, \w you|strong="G5210"\w* aren’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* \w like|strong="G5613"\w* \w other|strong="G1161"\w* \w people|strong="G1510"\w* \w that|strong="G2443"\w* don’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* listen \w to|strong="G2443"\w* \w what|strong="G3588"\w* \w God|strong="G3588"\w* says. \w It|strong="G1161"\w* \w is|strong="G1510"\w* \w like|strong="G5613"\w* \w they|strong="G1161"\w* \w are|strong="G1510"\w* living \w in|strong="G1722"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* dark \w all|strong="G1722"\w* \w the|strong="G1722"\w* \w time|strong="G2250"\w*. \w When|strong="G1161"\w* \w that|strong="G2443"\w* trouble \w day|strong="G2250"\w* \w comes|strong="G1510"\w*, \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w will|strong="G1510"\w* \w not|strong="G3756"\w* get \w a|strong="G5613"\w* shock, \w like|strong="G5613"\w* \w people|strong="G1510"\w* \w do|strong="G1510"\w* \w when|strong="G1161"\w* \w a|strong="G5613"\w* robber \w comes|strong="G1510"\w* \w to|strong="G2443"\w* steal \w their|strong="G1722"\w* \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \w at|strong="G1722"\w* night.  
\v 5 \w You|strong="G5210"\w* listen \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w what|strong="G1063"\w* \w God|strong="G2532"\w* says. \w It|strong="G2532"\w*’s \w like|strong="G5207"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w belong|strong="G1510"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w light|strong="G5457"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w belong|strong="G1510"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w day|strong="G2250"\w* \w time|strong="G2250"\w*. \w You|strong="G5210"\w* aren’t \w people|strong="G3956"\w* \w that|strong="G3956"\w* \w belong|strong="G1510"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w night|strong="G3571"\w* \w time|strong="G2250"\w* \w or|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* dark.  
\v 6 \w So|strong="G3767"\w* don’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* \w be|strong="G2532"\w* \w like|strong="G5613"\w* \w other|strong="G3062"\w* \w people|strong="G3062"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* aren’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* ready \w for|strong="G2532"\w* \w Jesus|strong="G2532"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w come|strong="G2532"\w* back, \w like|strong="G5613"\w* \w they|strong="G2532"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* \w asleep|strong="G2518"\w*. Instead, \w you|strong="G2532"\w* \w have|strong="G2532"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* think properly \w about|strong="G5613"\w* \w what|strong="G3588"\w* \w is|strong="G3588"\w* happening, \w like|strong="G5613"\w* \w people|strong="G3062"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* \w awake|strong="G1127"\w*.  
\v 7 \w You|strong="G2532"\w* know, \w night|strong="G3571"\w* time \w is|strong="G3588"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* time \w when|strong="G2532"\w* \w people|strong="G3588"\w* \w go|strong="G2532"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w sleep|strong="G2518"\w*, \w or|strong="G2532"\w* maybe \w they|strong="G2532"\w* \w get|strong="G3182"\w* \w drunk|strong="G3184"\w*, \w so|strong="G2532"\w* \w they|strong="G2532"\w* \w can|strong="G1063"\w*’\w t|strong="G3588"\w* think properly.  
\v 8 \w But|strong="G1161"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w belong|strong="G1510"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w the|strong="G2532"\w* \w day|strong="G2250"\w* \w time|strong="G2250"\w*, \w so|strong="G2532"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w have|strong="G2532"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* think properly. \w We|strong="G2249"\w* \w have|strong="G2532"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w keep|strong="G3525"\w* \w on|strong="G1746"\w* loving \w God|strong="G2532"\w* \w and|strong="G2532"\w* trusting \w him|strong="G2532"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* save \w us|strong="G2249"\w*. \w When|strong="G1161"\w* \w we|strong="G2249"\w* \w do|strong="G2532"\w* \w that|strong="G2532"\w*, \w it|strong="G2532"\w* \w will|strong="G1510"\w* \w make|strong="G2532"\w* \w us|strong="G2249"\w* \w strong|strong="G2532"\w* \w for|strong="G1161"\w* \w God|strong="G2532"\w*, like \w when|strong="G1161"\w* soldiers \w put|strong="G1746"\w* \w on|strong="G1746"\w* special clothes \w made|strong="G1161"\w* \w out|strong="G2532"\w* \w of|strong="G2250"\w* iron, \w to|strong="G2532"\w* stop \w the|strong="G2532"\w* enemy \w from|strong="G2532"\w* hurting \w them|strong="G2250"\w*.\x * \xo 5:8 \xt Isaiah 59:17; Ephesians 6:13-17\x*

\v 9-10 You see, God picked us to save us, not to get angry with us. Our leader, Jesus Christ, died for us, so now God can save us and give us new life. After Jesus comes back, we will live with him for ever. Maybe we will die before he comes, or maybe we will still be alive. It will not matter, because God will give us all new life, and we will all live with Jesus for ever.  
\v 11 \w So|strong="G2532"\w* \w then|strong="G2532"\w*, tell \w those|strong="G3588"\w* \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* each \w other|strong="G1520"\w*, \w and|strong="G2532"\w* help each \w other|strong="G1520"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w become|strong="G4160"\w* stronger \w for|strong="G1520"\w* \w God|strong="G2532"\w*, \w not|strong="G4160"\w* sad \w and|strong="G2532"\w* weak. \w And|strong="G2532"\w* yes, \w I|strong="G2532"\w* know \w that|strong="G3588"\w* \w you|strong="G4160"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* \w doing|strong="G4160"\w* \w that|strong="G3588"\w* already.

\v 12 \w Now|strong="G1161"\w*, Christian friends, \w here|strong="G1722"\w* \w are|strong="G3588"\w* \w a|strong="G2532"\w* \w few|strong="G1722"\w* \w more|strong="G2532"\w* \w things|strong="G3588"\w* \w we|strong="G2532"\w* really want \w you|strong="G5210"\w* \w to|strong="G2532"\w* \w do|strong="G1492"\w*.  
\li1 – Respect the people among you that work hard for God. They lead you, his people, and teach you how to live the right way.  
\v 13 They work for God, so respect them, and love them a lot.  
\li1 – And don’t argue with each other.  
\li1 –  
\v 14 And the next thing, friends, tell lazy people that they have to work.  
\li1 – And if somebody is frightened, talk to them in a way that helps them to be brave.  
\li1 – And help anybody that is weak.  
\li1 – And don’t get angry with anyone, keep on trying to help them.  
\li1 –  
\v 15 If somebody does something bad to you, don’t try to do payback to them, but always try to be good to each other and to everyone else too.

\v 16 \w And|strong="G5463"\w* \w we|strong="G5463"\w* want \w you|strong="G5463"\w* \w to|strong="G3842"\w* \w do|strong="G5463"\w* these things too.

\v 20 Don’t rubbish God’s messages,  
\v 21 but listen carefully when anyone tells you a message from God. Think carefully about everything they say, and find out if it really comes from God. Then, if it is right, be careful to remember it and to do those good things.  
\v 22 But if it is wrong, or if it tells you to do a bad thing, don’t do it. Keep away from every sort of bad thing, and don’t listen to messages that don’t come from God.
